Oppose the Lexden Bus Lane Proposals

A bus lane would damage the appearance of this residential road. The cost would be ridiculous, in my opinion, with no obvious gain. Simple research and observation would show that the yellow First Direct school buses are the major blockage especially in the afternoon. For example an empty bus stops opposite St Mary's school. It fills quickly and then departs. Followed immediately by another yellow bus that then waits to fill up as pupils wander towards it. Once this bus moves on traffic quickly starts to flow. Consideration could be given to relocate this west bound stop into Norman Way which is wide enough to accommodate a stop and has space for buses to easily turn round. Consideration could be given to all school buses having bus stands in Norman Way and then make the junction traffic light controlled. This would prevent all congestion by buses on Lexden Road plus it is hugely less expensive. Creating a joint cycle lane and pedestrian foot-way will without doubt cause serious accidents. Children, other pedestrians and bikes do not mix. Observations would show the brains behind this idea that modern bikes and fit cyclists often whizz along at 25 mph +. A child with earphones in or making 'important' text messages would not stand a chance.

This is wrong, should not happen.

I cannot see that a bus lane would improve congestion or speed up journey time. Reducing the width of footpaths which are already overcrowded puts the lives of the general public and the schoolchildren at risk .

I was never a fan of buses anyways.

I agree that a bus lane in Lexden Road will be dangerous for all those using the road, pavement and a bus stop. I am especially concerned about the children from St Mary's school using the bus stop.

It is good news that Lexden is receiving a grant, but parts of this this proposal are ill thought out, namely the narrowing of the pavement to accommodate this. There are better ways to spend the money, perhaps CCTV around the area, given the recent spate of incidents, or perhaps further development of the avenue of remembrance pedestrian access/ cycle route (which runs almost parallel to lexden Road). Narrowing the pavement on Lexden Road, where so many children stand pre and post school hours, would be dangerous, and this alone should mean that this scheme is reviewed.

This is a huge waste of money and completely unnecessary.

This is not needed - a waste of public money - making pavements more narrow is less safe for school children - money could be better spent on other traffic issues in Colchester

This is not needed as traffic flows freely except for 30 minutes on Monday to Friday during school term time. i.e 180 x 0.5 hours = 90 hours in a year. A waste of our money which could be better spent on more major traffic issues in Colchester.

Too dangerous for the children from the schools in the area.

I strongly object to the idiotic idea of a bus lane, purely due to the safety of the school children being forced into the road because the pavement is not wide enough now.

For the short period of congestion (school times) that it would relieve it is not necessary and will pose a danger to children.

No to the bus lane, unsafe for all the school children.

No bus lane on Lexden road. Not required and would be dangerous.

The proposed Bus Lane is ill thought out and typical of a remote county council not in tune with local views. The solution will put lives at risk and is a complete waste of money.

A bus lane may increase the flow of buses along Lexden rd however fast moving buses and two pages of traffic will mean an increased risk for all those youngsters coming out of schools along the road and needing to cross it.

It will be a disaster to the environment and the traffic system.

I object to the proposed bus-lane. Narrowing the pavements would be a big mistake, putting the safety of pedestrians and cyclists at risk.
