I use this road everyday to deliver 3 children to various schools and recognise it is a congested road (only at peak times) a bus lane will not help the majority of people and given the vast number of children on the road, frankly having slow traffic is a good safety measure.

The pavements on the lexden road are already seriously overcrowded at certain times of the day. Pedestrians, pushchairs, students are reguarly forced to walk in the road in order for them to continue their journey, .
It is already an accident waiting to happen and there is not enough room currently for students waiting for their buses.

I use this road by bicycle four days a week to travel from the town to Lexden. There are too many driveways, roads and entrances to make the pavement a safe or practical route for cyclists. I would stop cycling to work and drive, instead, if this goes ahead. There are only a small number of bus routes that use this road and apart from the school buses parking near the hospital, there are hardly ever delays or holdups, with buses and other motor traffic travelling at 25-35mph all day. There is no need nor justification for the bus lane.

Given the deplorable state of our roads and footpaths this seems like madness - we cant even maintain our road markings. If there are people with proposals like this in local government I suggest their services could be dispensed with and funds allocated to a better use. Get into the real world Chelmsford.

I live just off Park Road and use the Lexden Road daily the creation of a Bus Lane will mean the narrowing of pavements which only just cope at school afternoon finishing time. This will put Kids lives at risk. Why create dangerous solution o a problem that exists for approx. 30 mins per school term day.

A totally unnecessary and dangerous idea. Only congested for a very shot time each day and the proposal will lead to far more accidents with all the school children. If only people who actually use it were listened to.

There have been three accidents within a minutes walk from me, on Lexden road, in the last month- creating a bus lane: removing the traffic calming islands and narrowing the pavement, could only make further accidents more likely and the consequences for those involved more serious; as traffic would be going faster and pedestrians would have less room to move out of the way.

This narrowing of the pavement will prove unsafe for the school children. They already struggle to keep on the pavement whilst walking to and from the bus stop

Entering and exitting side roads would cause further danger to pedestrians and cyclists. Lexden road is a splendid road with proportions that work. Emulate it not destroy it!

The idea of reducing the pavements is ridiculous. With the large volume of children from all the nearby schools would make this a dangerous option. Improving the parking for schools would be a more obvious option to reduce traffic.

Is an entire bus lane needed, surely some congestion passing points for the bus would be sufficient. The on street parking could be reduced to enhance traffic flow. A bus lane near the schools will be dangerous, by reducing pavement width and pedestrians and cyclists sharing the pavement. Cyclists come far too close to pedestrians.

Considering the volume of school children from St. Mary's, Girls Grammar, Boys Grammar, the Catholic school and the High School using these pavements I believe this proposal is dangerous and potential life threatening.

Totally useless and waste of money having this proposal, the road is fine as it is now.

This costly and unnecessary proposal will create unacceptable risk to pedestrians, cyclists and motorists and will not address the source of traffic congestion - term time drop-off and collection of school children.

narrowing and sharing pavements in a area with many school children is crazy.

This scheme would be costly and extremely dangerous. When schools finish in the afternoon there is hardly enough room for pupils to fit onto the pavements near their bus stops. Reducing the pavement widths will mean they would spill onto the cycle path or even the road. The speeds achieved by some cyclists are very dangerous for shared paths. Relocating school buses to a safe and secure area away from the main Lexden Road would be a far safer ide.

It will be a personal nightmare for me and my family if the bus lane plan carries on due to our schools AND home being there.
