Colchesters infrastructure is already struggling with the amount of new homes going up in and around Colchester. The lack of quality out of town amenities doesn't help matters and people are forced in to the dying town centre. Bus lanes are NOT the way to ease congestion in Colchester!

Bus lanes cause more traffic congestion (look at the one at The Albert) - utterly ridiculous. Plus narrowing the footpath and sharing with cyclists is an accident waiting to happen.

This proposal is ill conceived with regard to children's safety. It would perhaps be more sensible to look at times designated for road repairs to take place outside of rush hour or overnight to alleviate congestion before this bus lane is even considered.

Please no how will the towns traffic cope if you change lexden road into a bus lane. Don't change something that works.

Completely unnecessary proposal, ill thought out and without appropriate consultation. The traffic is only an issue twice a day during term time.

The notion of the proposal and potential commission of this bus lane is rediculous and will be dangerous for school children attempting to make their way to school on small walkways and increased traffic!

Combining cyclists with pedestrians along Lexden Road to make room for a bus lane in to town seems foolhardy to me. Pedestrians lose on two fronts. A number of school children will be put at risk of harm if cyclists share the path. Also crossing the road (even using the crossings) will become hazardous at peak times as fast moving buses may be hidden from view by the queuing cars.

The current plan is a huge step backwards for this road. Priority should be given to pedestrians, cyclists, buses then cars in that order. Its basic safety. This proposal prioritises buses over more vulnerable road users. If someone gets killed due to these changes, particularly a child, the blame for the tragedy will be easy to apportion.

Please, please, please don't do this. Thousands of children use this road; at peak times they are already spilling off the pavements into the road. It is mindless to narrow the pavements and ask cyclists to share with pedestrians. At the moment the cyclists can use the road in relative safety because the lanes are nice and wide and cars can pass safely. Please rethink - the proposed changes will be more dangerous and will cause much worse congestion, and hence pollution too. Please save the money and DON'T DO IT.

Shared pavements for cyclists and pedestrians is just crazy. The bridge from Mercury Theatre to St Mary's car park had a similar shared idea that needs to be scrapped too!

Ridiculous proposal. Will create more emissions because cars will filter out around the road. Nightmare on the school run. Stupid, stupid, stupid from ECC.

Bus lanes, even if they do encourage people out of their cars, should not be prioritised over walkers or cyclists. This is particularly pertinent on a road used by so many children

This pavement is already packed before and after school. There is no room for cyclists and any narrowing will put children at risk. A child falling or slipping into the road will be met by fast moving traffic.

I am writing to oppose the implementation of the bus route on the Lexden Road in Colchester. I believe it will slow down the traffic and buses can move quite freely up and down that road quite freely at the moment. We do not need any more roads messed with in Colchester. Thank you
