Potentially hazardous. Of very limited benefit. Not a well communicated or thought out plan.

This would cause more problems . This is not needed.

I live in the area and cycle along Lexden road at speed 3:4 times a week and I think it is so unsafe for a pavement to be shared between pedestrians and cyclists. And so many school children use the pavements every day and so many of them never pay attention so let's think about them

Another example of our money being wasted and the people not being listened to.

This proposal is totally unnecessary and could potentially be dangerous.

This proposal will endanger young children's safety as they go to and from school along Lexden road. Siting a cycle lane on the same pathway as a nursery, a primary school and a secondary school is, for starters incredibly risky. I am sure a risk assessment has been carried out and indemnification has been purchased to insure the council from inevitable liability lawsuits as and when accident will occur. The solution is to move traffic and to encourage bus use from Stanway into town and clear the way through. I do not believe this will have the desired effect. The busy periods are from 8.00-9.00am and 2.45-4.15, a maximum of 2 and half hours. This period affects a handful of buses during that time, Perhaps 10 number 65 buses per day, the only route serving Stanway to town. Can this really be a good return on investment? The scheme only serves traffic in one direction as well. A scheme for half of the carriageway! The scheme will extend this period by blocking the flow of traffic and flow of traffic is best controlled by considerate drivers not by schemes that restrict and regulate. You only have to look at the re-in statement of lights at the bottom of East Hill to see the congestion caused, congestion that was acceptable with a roundabout to slow traffic. Again, is the council ready for the deluge of complaints from residents who cannot access this traffic 'improvement' scheme. Is the council really going to tear up what is a remarkable conservation area for the sake of a few hours grace and favour to the bus companies. I am a commuter and regular use the bus service which is patch at best, a terribly unreliable service - service being an oxymoron in the case of the 65 bus. I sincerely hope this scheme is abandoned before it goes any further for the safety of our children and for common sense to prevail.

Narrowing the pavements and pedestrians sharing with cyclists is not a good idea from a safety aspect, especially with so many school children using the pavements.

The pavements alongside Lexden Road are extremely busy during term time rush hours with hordes of children. Narrowing the pavements would pose a severe risk to their safety. I appreciate that the traffic at these times is also very slow along Lexden Road, but this is not a safe option for dealing with that.

This is a ridiculous proposal that is ill conceived and appears to just be to appease the bus company(s).. it's time ECC listened to the residents of Colchester, rather than righting rough shod, as per usual...

Further chaos, no benefit

The children are already spilling onto the roads around the bus stop areas at leaving time, I feel narrowing pathways and buses travelling at 30mph could potentially be extremely hazardous.

Reducing pavement width along Lexden Rd probably the most dangerous option available - after all the school children struggle to remain on it now. Creating bus lanes in an effort to ease congestion twice a day for about 32 working weeks a year, (once the exam season starts congestion hugely diminished ), would be a further waste of funds - so I expect to see it up and running in the not too distant future - and then it can be closed down again once a child or two has been hurt.

This is an unnecessary and dangerous approach to taking children to and from schools, cycle lanes will be dangerous for anyone walking along Lexden Road and the road is perfectly acceptable as it is. Strongly object to this ridiculous waste of time, effort and money.

As a mother of two daughters I am shocked that CBC feel it is acceptable to encroach on the little pedestrian space available with a bus lane. This will not encourage people to ditch cars for a leisurely stroll due to it being unsafe. Not only will we be expected to be closer to the passing traffic you also expect us to share that smaller pathway with cyclists. I do hope this is reconsidered.
