I have a child who walks up the Lexden Road every day and feel the proposed plan will make this journey more dangerous. I also feel it will spoil the look and feel of Colchester's premiere road and ruin a conservation area.

I oppose the idea to create a bus lane on the Lexden Road in Colchester at the cost of narrowing the pavement for the pedestrians.

This simply cannot happen because nobody wants it. Given the amount of traffic and pedestrians that use Lexden Road, it actually works well as it stands.

Fully support your petition. This is the consequence of Essex County Council's decision to 'citify' Colchester Town. The black mausoleums (park & ride) which are too big, inefficient and polluting are also part of their hare-brained schemes. Transport and road planning and maintenance should lie with the borough not the county council! When are they going to relent and reverse the disastrous decision to disallow cars from driving down Queen Street. This is a county council out of touch with residents! Well done for taking the time to organise this petition. I fully endorse all your arguments! BW Fay

The road outline was designed to service the many schools off Lexden to provide safe travel for children and their parents. This change will have a major impact on the schools and I believe put our children's safety at risk. Using this road frequently, it is one of the most free flowing roads in Colchester and I cannot see why it requires a dedicated bus lane with all the negative impact this has to other road and foot traffic, especially when so many other councils are removing their existing Bus lanes for the same reasons.

I fully agree with other petitioners comments, however it would be good to see the plans/drawings of the changes to be made and maybe residences could have an input into the final drawings to make safer for all or oppose completely.

Really cannot see how this scheme would demonstrate value for money or consideration for pedestrian (in particular school children) or cyclist safety. There must be more appropriate schemes that would benefit from the funding that is clearly available.

If this goes ahead there is a real potential for a serious accident with little evidence that it will assist traffic congestion effectively. All the Council have to do is go and observe the mass of teenagers getting off and on the buses to understand the potential for an accident if the paths are restricted in any way. The teens are too busy socialising and they will simply not comprehend or comply with a shared cycle pedestrian pathway - that is part of being a teenager! There is no point anyone pretending that if the Council put a line or a sign to indicate the path is shared, the children will observe it. Look at Crouch Street! I neither live in Lexden Road, nor do I have a child who walks that way to school. But the idea is unjustifiable and without sensible consideration.

Have to echo previous comments - outside of school dropping off/picking up times - there are no major traffic issues on Lexden Road (other than near to Lexden Crown and parked cars !!)
Shared pavements = dangerous, waste of money

When will the highways dept. see sence. A totally unnecessary project and waste of public funds that could be directed to a more worthwhile project
