The bus lane is not needed and will damage the character of the area.

I don't support the proposal as I have seen very little evidence from Essex County Council demonstrating if this scheme offers value for money. For example, how much is the scheme cost, what is the cost per passenger using the new bus lane, what checks and balances are in place to ensure the scheme will not spiral as public sector generally have a poor record keeping capital schemes on programme or budget. What is the financial benefit to Essex residents and businesses. How will the scheme being funded. Is this funding being diverted from other higher priority projects, where is the funding to maintain existing roads, cycle paths and pavements, pot holes should be fixed. Would the cabinet member support a scheme if it was in his locality and was opposed ?.

A bus lane on this section of road is quite unnecessary.

An absolutely ridiculous plan and such a waste of money. A shared cycle and pedestrian path will discourage people from walking towards the town thus encouraging more use of the car.

Seems like a dangerous and unrealistic proposal - the pavements should not be made narrower

Unnecessary and waste of money likely to create more problems and dangers than it seeks to resolve.

For what purpose? Do the council really think we will use a bus instead of our cars if there is a dedicated free flowing bus lane? In a fantasy world where everyone is polite and mad cyclists don't mow you down on the pavement and other motorists realise others are on the road for a common purpose and are more tolerant, maybe. All for an hour or two weekdays in term time. Spend the money on fixing pot holes instead, please.

bus route is unnecessary there are only 2 occasions during the term times when there is a slight delay as children crowd pavements waiting for busses and traffic is kept waiting until they have boarded, at these times a shared footpath would be dangerous and completely impractical. Regular users of this road know to avoid those times only 20 to 30 minutes to reiterate this is only during term times.

I think that the safety of pedestrians especially schoolchildren will be severely compromised by the construction of this bus lane.

The proposed scheme appears to both make Lexden Road more hazardous and ruin the grand nature of the conservation area. Surely the funds could be put to better use in Colchester?

Very stupid idea. What about the safety of the children that use this road to get to school i take it it's the idea od someone behind a desk that doesn't even live in colchester the roads in colchester are bad enough as it is let alone adding more disruption no wonder a lot of people won't come to shop in colchester and i dont blame them .

This proposal is dangerous and will not work. School buses will still block the road.

Yet again a huge amount of money to be wasted on a scheme that will benefit a few, i.e. Nayland road bicycle lane..

When roads around Colchester are already at almost gridlock because of growing population, to think about further restricting one of the main roads in and out of Colchester is not going to help!
It would only lead to a migration to other roads in a attempt to bypass any hold up, there being self defeating. How many people really use the buses to make this proposal worthwhile. Improve the infrastructure, don't penalise car drivers further

pedestrians and cyclists together in a limited space are not safe.
