Lever actions have legitimate use among target shooters and hunters. The system is even older than bolt actions and rate of fire comparable.

It doesn't matter what laws you put on place, the siege showed that if a criminal wants a certain firearm they will get it even if they are unlicensed. So why penalise the people who do go by the rules and use firearms responsible for an unlicensed persons actions.

99% of licensed firearm owners are responsible law abiding citizens. Please don't take our guns away because uninformed city folk only see the bad side of black market firearms in the media. Black market firearms are a completely seperate issue to licensed firearms. Taking away privelages of licensed firearm owners will change nothing in this country towards gun crime.

Its not the "registered" "legal" firearms and users that are the problem, don't penalise the law abiding citizens that are doing the right thing for the crimes being committed by un-licensed criminals with un-regiseterd firearms!

The government should stop harassing and restricting licences firearm holders and concentrate on dealing with the unlicensed people who posses firearms.

Mr Abbot and all concerned,
Firstly I agree strongly with the content of the petition letter but not with the tone of the petition letter and believe it to be inappropriate and unprofessional. Secondly I agree whole heartedly withe the gun laws that we have at the moment.
However, the looming ban on an "action" is sadening me greatly, my uncle died aprx 8 months ago as the end result of the actions of a greedy, large company Called James hardy (mesothelioma, lung cancer from asbestos ). The only thing I have to remind me of him now is a lever action rifle that he taught me too shoot and hunt responsibly with. I have many great memories of my uncle and he was a tax paying law abiding man that loved a good political argument and brought me up to be the same. If this ban goes through you will be breaking the hearts of many of us, not just a one voter such as my self that probably doesn't matter anyway,( and before you say" but what about those killed and left behind by weapons like these", please look at the statistics on what guns are actually used?who by? How were they obtained? We're they legal? How did they get in the hand of the accused? We're they licensed? And! How many mass shootings have occurred since port Arthur and why ?)
