Ask President Stanley to Condemn Trump's Immigration Ban

Students at SBU must have unambiguous assurance that they are safe and can study without being preoccupied by fear of immigration procedures and practices of this current administration.

I stand by the petition 100%. I urge the President to declare SBU as a sanctuary school and condemn President Trump's Immigration Ban.

Follow the lead of the Association of American Universities and all institutions of higher education that have come out strongly and clearly against this unconstitutional and immoral executive order. Stand up for all members of your community.

Keeping an unbiased position should not prevent us from standing up to tyranny. Those who think Trump should be given a chance fool themselves and in the meantime ignore the suffering of the most vulnerable in our society.

"in accordance with federal law" is not enough. When the arbiters of federal law create unjust laws, they are not to be followed. Condemn now!

I believe the best part of my identity is that I am one of many. I am a small piece of this universe, connected to everything else. I believe in a future that favors "us" above "I." I believe this petition will help make that future manifest. Thank you for your consideration, President Stanley.

SBU has such a large community of international students and faculty. It is a shame not to make a stand to protect them and their contribution to the community

The "good fight" has begun early and in earnest and there is no doubt that it is both "good" and, alas, a "fight."

At the very least, this petition represents the welcoming spirit and good will of the community it reflects. Even if the leaders of this University decide to dance around or obfuscate through this critical issue, rest assured, the people have spoken.

I believe the university should make an unequivocal statement not to cooperate with federal authorities attempting to enforce an executive order whose discriminatory practices run counter to the university’s mission. Please use your position to condemn strongly and publicly the discriminatory executive orders and practices the President is enacting, and will enact in the days and months and years ahead.
