Letter to the Board of Trustees of Whittier College - Football, Lacrosse, Golf

As a parent of a Whittier athlete, I’d have enjoyed the opportunity to help solve the budget shortfall through fundraising. It could be done!

2012 Graduate. Stop destroying Whittier College!

As the captain of the 2022-2023 Whittier Men’s Team captain, I am fighting for my teammates and the golf program whom has offered me the chance of chasing my dreams and playing professional golf in the future. I want the similar dream to come true for a future poet golfer.

No excuse to dump sports.

All sports should remain an integral part of the Whittier College experience.

Not informing the students and taking a major decision was a very shady thing to do,they deserve answers.Nothing can justify what the President did.The money and resources that go into a student enrolling for a college is a not a matter of joke !!

Athletics at small college attract tons of students to institutions as well as providing students with a higher quality social experience and healthier physical and mental experience… taking that away from students is not only devastating personally, but potentially sending an unintentionally message to other student athletes of expendability. In the day and age of the transfer portal this could have repercussions that are unforeseen

As trustees of Whittier College you must do the right thing. The truth must be found out and told to all alumni, students and staff.

I believe dropping the sports teams is a huge problem, especially after talking with students. So many things have been taken away from students, with COVID, politics and other top news stories, we all need the arts and sports programs to continue on.

As a former employee of Whittier College Athletics, the president is ruining the school. She is going to burn that place to the ground. She’s trying to turn the college into an online school and certification program. She needs to be fired or forced to resign before there is no more Whittier.

No brainer.

President has to go. Based on current trends (enrollment and eliminating sports), Whittier College will not be able to remain open in the next 5 to 10 years.

To the Whittier College Board of Trustees, On behalf of the NorCal Chapter of USA Lacrosse, I request you to please review and reverse your decision to shut down the men's lacrosse program. I believe you will lose excellent potential students who will no longer the school without a NCAA lacrosse program. Moreover, your using CTE as a reason to drop lacrosse is scientifically unfounded. This, along with the horrifically bad decision to Force Critical Race Theory, is evidence that the WC is on the wrong track.

This was a shortsighted decision that will negatively impact the school’s geographic diversity and standing nationally.

I am the granddaughter of George K. Tenopir, Jane Longwell Tenopir, Agnes Anne (Krueger) Remkiewicz; the daughter of Frank Remkiewicz and Kathryn (Tenopir) Remkiewicz, the niece of Carol Tenopir and Stacey Remkiewicz, and the sister of Matthew Remkiewicz. Additionally I am the great-granddaughter of an early Whittier alumna and my lifelong best friend's dad was a professorin geological sciences there in the 90s. I grew up at WC football games. My nana (Jane) was a Palmer and my brother was a Lancer. The Rock was painted in my granddad's memory after his death in the fall of 2014. Many, many WC alumni credit my granddad with their college careers and later successes in life. My son once dreamed of playing lacrosse for Whittier. I may not be a WC alumna, but purple and gold run through my veins. Whittier deserves so much more and better than the current administration.

This is one of many reasons I am worried about the leadership at Whittier College and the direction of my beloved alma mater.
