Letter to the Board of Trustees of Whittier College - Football, Lacrosse, Golf

This decision is a huge detriment to the community & surrounding regions’ college seeking students!

One important quality that is sadly underdeveloped in our world today is the ability to work together for a common goal. Team-sports encourage Teamwork!!!!! Losing team sports at Whittier college would be a terrible shame. Please reconsider this decision. We need to prepare our future leaders to not just focus on the intellectual aspect of life. They need to learn what a balanced life looks like. A balanced life incorporates the mental, emotional, physical and spiritual qualities of being human. We need to bring our world back into balance by embracing all four qualities of humanity. Please keep those sports programs in place. It was the football team that gave my son the opportunity to attend and graduate from Whittier. Thanks to Whittier he was able to experience the world and become a hard working firefighter. On December 3rd he will be promoted to Engineer. He still maintains close contact with his fellow Orthgonians from Whittier

Who in their right mind would even think eliminating these sports was a good idea!

A three year study on these sports is not relevant when conducted in the midst of the COVID Pandemic! Whittier Colleges's Athletics Programs are a great incentive for many scholar athletes. The current president of the college is making too many decisions that do not honor our students', faculty's and alumni's vision for Whittier College. Donna Sweet BA 1983

Keep these sports going. Our youth need an outlet.

Stop the nonsense at WC and start making decisions that will bring value to our campus. This place has the potential to be a great school with the right administration behind it.

Embarrassing lack of professionalism and leadership.

Cutting programs mid school year is a slap in the face to all the student athletes who have dedicated their time and money to attend this school with the promise to play.

Fire oubre, don’t cancel any sports!

Lacrosse was a sport which transformed how I saw things material objects in space. Being a trained scientist through Whittier college, I see this as a very important transformative and invaluable experience for myself.

One of the most poorly reasoned, justified and communicated blunders I have ever witnessed. Lacrosse class of 1994 and will never give another cent. Embarrassing.

There are only 7 D3 school in California that offer golf, I don’t know why they dropped this sport. The reason that golf too expensive is BS, they are hardly traveling outside the state. It is make me feel so angry with the President and the Director of Athletics, I’m pretty sure a lot of the parents willing to put money in the programs, but no they decided to kick them in the curb is sickening. I would like to the real reason why they dropped these sports. I mean the real reason to not the BS one.

Making up over a third of our campus, WC needs to have an administration that supports and values Whittier’s student athletes.

As an alumni of Whittier College and athlete of the football team, it is clear the administration is shortsighted and have not done anything over the gear minimum for long term success of the programs and all credit goes to the coaches and athletes of all programs for doing much with not much being supported by the administration.

No more money until you fix this.

What the hell is going on over there? Golf? Really?
