As an alumni of Whittier I believe it is a very poor and destructive decision to do away with the football, Lacrosse & golf teams. The board needs to re-assess this decision and make it an open forum to be discussed.

Part of what make institutions like Whittier College special are the traditions. Once you remove these sports, you remove some of the lure that attract prospective students. You remove the alumni support. You lose part of your “soul”. You lose your core. It’s a step in the wrong direction

At a time when lacrosse is growing as a sport, you couldn’t have picked a worse time to eliminate it. Schools are adding the sport to attract students, not eliminating it.

Lacrosse is a sport of finesse and speed not violence. Plz consider my signature as testament that lacrosse changes lives for the better w it’s life’s lessons - if taught.

First the law school, now this… ridiculous. Oh, let’s add the fact that every other year the school wants to get rid of Societies, who surprisingly, are the biggest donors.

Collegiate sports added so much to my college experience at Whittier College. I will always cherish being a member of the Poet Basketball Program. I have priceless memories, and made life long friends during my time at Whittier College through athletics, and I strongly believe that every current and future Poet should be given the same opportunity to do so!

The athletics community is what makes/made Whittier College special for thousands of student athletes, myself and husband included. Many of whom have gone on to spread that love of sports with younger generations. Please honor that legacy and keep these teams intact on the Poet roster!

First the performing arts, Hawaiian series and now sports. I have severed all my ties with Whittier College, including the generous donations I have given in the past..

Cutting sports because they are not competitive? When was the last time Whittier came in first in any academic rating from US News & WR?
It's not about championships, it is about having a diverse community. he proposed moves will make the school less diverse and more homogenous.
Since when was Whittier about excluding people?

To learn from the administration of Whittier College that these four programs were cut following a three-year study, points to a severe lack of leadership and a greater void in the administration's understanding of how to mentor and develop young people that have dedicated themselves to the pursuit of academic and athletic excellence. To allow the representatives of the individual sports to tell recruits that the trajectory of their sport was in the "right" direction and that they had the full support of the college, while knowing that there was a strong likelihood that the program would be cut is not only disingenuous, but borders on fraud. The young people that committed to Whittier College did so after careful consideration and many turned down offers from other institutions. To tell a freshman that their ability to trust those in positions of responsibility is now in question because they believed in those that would look them squarely in the eyes and lie to them is unacceptable. Rather than cutting these four sports, careful consideration should be given to the dismissal or harsh reprimand of the administrators that were entrusted to the wellbeing of the programs - this includes the President and Executive Director of Athletics. The further fact that neither of these individuals was on hand to deliver the news to the Men's Lacrosse team in person is shameful, and the President's ducking of the parent town hall on Wednesday, November 16, 2022 is inexcusable. I welcome the opportunity further discuss this in person or by phone at 949-933-0964.
