Letter to the Board of Trustees of Whittier College - Football, Lacrosse, Golf

We want our football, Lacrosse and golf to remain.

Don’t cancel the program

Holy cow! I can’t believe this is a thing. Whoever made this decision should be removed immediately and hopefully not have any decision/making power in the future.

They kids have lost enough with Covid, so the right thing bring the sports back.

Please reconsider, as this is a shortsighted decision that will result as a ripple effect with negative impact for WC. Football is part of the college social experience. Universities without football just aren’t the same. Lacrosse is a great game of skill and speed, and continues to be one of the fastest growing sports on the West Coast. (Five year lacrosse parent here..) Golf is a universal sport that can be played by men and women well beyond college and is a useful tool in business. All three sports attract diverse student athletes - why would WC want to make such a narrow minded decision?

Whittier needs all its sports for everyone

Of course there was a drop in sports attendance during the last three years! Everything was shut down from Covid. If this doesn't get overturn that's the last straw for me and the school I attended. Plus what's better for both spirt and mind than sports. Good luck losing a third of your applications and still being a college. Top heads get out so new blood can come in and get this school back on track and bring life back to this historic institution.

Whittier College Athletics gave myself, and so many others a chance to continue or dreams. I am a third generation graduate from Whittier College. I grew up going to football games in the Mid 90’s and attended every home game while a student athlete at Whittier. Please don’t deprive the community of Whittier and Past, Present, and Future Poets from enjoying memories I am so blessed to have. Do the right thing and reinstate these 4 sports immediately and watch the impact it will have throughout this massive Poet community. Go Poets Kevin Pigott Class of 2010

Making a business decision is one thing, but making a closed decision on behalf of a school, a 100yr history that includes 1,000’s of supporters, donators, advocates, alumni, community members, coaches, trainers and more is not only infuriating to those that support Whittier College but moreover it’s careless, disconnected and downright sabotage by a completely ignorant actions of a bigot who sits in a presidential seat. It’s embarrassing to see such an unaware, tunnel visioned dictator to have this type of power!!! Absurd.
