Football belongs at whittier. It is a good opportunity for athletes that want to play extended football and get a quality education as well.

As former X-Country and Track member at Whittier College, also on the Diving Team (as a never been on any type of swim Team prior).
I fully support the Athletics at Whittier College. As a D3 institution, I had the ability and community to try physically, mentally and socially challenge myself in new areas.

Whittier college provided me the foundation to be successful in my future endeavors .
Athletics was an integral part of that success.
After a successful Air Force Career retiring as a senior officer I pursued a career in education .
Worlkes as special assistant to Dr. Arlene Ackerman . She served as the Superintendent of Philadelphia Public Schools . It’s the 7th largest public school district in the USA.
Bottom line : athletics at junior and high school level made a impactful difference in thousands of kids lives ! Many of these young people went on to college and graduated !
Athletics was the key hook to keep them in school !

I’ve been associated with Whittier College since 1950 when I attended Broadoaks School for Kindergarten. As a grade schooler I would be given 25¢ and allowed to walk several miles to Hadley Field or Wardman Gym for ball games. The annual Homecoming Parade was a big deal for downtown and all us kids. A float always celebrated the post war football victory over USC when the Poet team was loaded with ex Marines attending on the GI Bill.
Before graduating Whittier High, I met with the admissions director (George Tenopir) to apply. Within a week I was accepted and told I qualified for a $100 scholarship. While working my way through WC, I met and married my wife (Cheryl Matton Snowdon, 1966) and made many lifelong friends. In my career I worked for two different Lancer Brothers from Irvine to Long Island NY. Although I haven’t been back to the campus since my wife’s Memorial Service at the Chapel, the school remains a large part of me.
The breadth of Whittier’s programs (academic, social, athletic, etc.) have prepared thousands of graduates to be outstanding leaders, citizens, and patriots.

Whittier College's lack of respect for the community it serves is of great concern. It has built and maintained its strong reputation due to the wealth and diversity of its alumni. Losing support of this strong alumni base will be the complete downfall of Whittier College. This is not about the importance of football this is about integrity, honesty, and transparency: which is sorely missing in this administration and within the current Board.

Bad idea. Football team has a ton of tradition and makes up a good amount of the student body. Facility is great also, especially for a smaller school. Removal of the lacrosse and soccer team do not make sense either. Both have men’s and women’s teams which also add to the student body. Whittier has the potential to grow and should pursue that. The removal of these sports, especially the football program would be taking the school in the wrong direction.

These sports programs where the main social events/gatherings the school provided. Although we are D3 and a small school- these teams and programs brought the students together and made us feel like we had community.
And no-the societies do NOT offer the same inclusion and community that sports programs do. In fact they were far more exclusive and not fitting for everyone at the school.
Please consider reinstating these programs. These programs are so much a part of what makes Whittier feel like “the real college experience”. Without them I surely believe the appeal and experience of Whittier will decline.

As a two sport athlete at Whittier and in support of all of the aforementioned topics detailed by this petition I provide my signature and support of reinstating the athletic programs and my strongest vote of NO Confidence in the current leadership.
