Letter to Shambhala Transition Team

Let us use this as an opportunity to unite ourselves in a way that might not have been possible before.

A big tent, and a bulwark against the barbarism of the dark age. Diversity makes us stronger, and in this case diversity of teachings. Diversity can bring about challenges, but like any relationship, overcoming challenges and disagreements leads to greater trust and faith and resolve than those left unchallenged. Its not a big leap to include those that we have called family before, and recently. Conversely, ever finer fractures of our family tree leaves us each feeble, ineffective, and perilously close to extinction. What better way to encourage a positive resolution of the present perturbation and threat of new divisions than to start by healing old ones. I am not an old dog and wasn't around for this schism, but I know sometimes doing the right thing requires some willful naivete, and I know we were warned about factions.

I hope that the umbrella of Shambhala can expand and be more inclusive of the lineage heritage we've all shared over many years.

This could be a wonderful opportunity to return to and manifest our original vision as given to us by VCTR.

I first met the Vidyadhara in May of 71 in San Francisco. The following day I became his recording engineer. Hearing him proclaim the dharma was exactly what I needed but I was too naive at that time to realize it was him I had been looking for. I was fortunate to be his recording engineer as I would be at all his talks in Boulder which there were many. I got steeped well in the Buddhist path. A year ago I ran into Adam Lobel. He asked me what practice was doing. I told him I had been studying Khenpo Tsultrim Gyatso's teachings on Mahamudra and found that set of teachings to be very potent for myself. He asked me if I had heard of Shambhala Mahamudra. I told him I did attend the first Rigden Abisheka and the seminar on Shambhala Mahamudra at SMC. I also mentioned that I had a problem connecting with those teachings. I asked him why I should learn a whole new set of concepts if the purpose of these teachings were to dissolve the grip of conceptual mind. He didn’t have a response. So to this day, I am dedicated to preserving the Buddhist path as presented by the Vidyadhara, Chogyam Trungpa Rinpoche.

I have had the same experience and I so appreciate your putting my thoughts into words in this petition.

The precious dharma is the unsurpassable protector. The path has not been protected with all the new curriculum. I am not against the new curriculum but it does not reach me as deeply as these older teachings. From a student of Shambhala for 20 years. Missing the Buddhist dharma and teachers.

Access to esstential texts for Kagyu Vajrayana students in VCTRs lineage must be restored.

I think and feel deeply that devotion to the Kagyu and Nyingma lineages is essential for me, for Shambhala.

Trungpa Rinpoche's vision, like the Garuda, was beyond the boundaries of small mind. It's time to fly!

Whatever happens, it is heartwarming to see so many familiar names, and feel like years of pain and longing is finally coming out into the open.
