As a former resident of King Estates, I think it's outrageous that the city of Oakland and OPD have done little to stem to wave upon wave of violent crime in these East Oakland neighborhoods. Please do something to address the the many concerns raised in this petition.

Our neighborhood has had several burglaries of my direct adjacent neighbors in less than the past year, we just bought a home here on circle hill dr and would like to see our safety and concerns taken seriously. I have a son who is four and my neighbors have small babies and children, I want to be able to feel like they can play outside without fear of being hurt, robbed or attacked....

Yes, as the economy tanks, the situation gets worse and worse. Poverty is the real problem here...and it is a problem that needs a global solution... addiction, low self esteem, lack of education, lack of hope are the causes of so much of this crime...yes, we here need more police protection, but we need so much more than just that...and yes, we do vote in this neighborhood!
I am elderly and tired of living in fear since several attempts at invasion of my home have been made over the years. Would like better response from OPD.

This petition rings very true for me. My husband and I were residents of Millsmont for only 10 months. We moved out, breaking our lease a month early, following FOUR break-ins in a 6-week period of time. Of those 4 incidents, police only came once, and that was 2 days after the burglary and probably only because my husband had taken a picture of the perpetrators and their car, having caught them in the act. It is shameful and appalling that hard-working people have to live in fear.

Our community needs assistance from our elected leaders & First Responders. We are willing to be active to keep our communities safe but we need help - timely & reliable responses.

I am not a resident of this neighborhood, but reside in the Upper Dimond, Beat 22Y. We too are fed up with the notion that Oakland has become a free-for-all for criminals lately. Our neighborhood is one who has had to resort to reaching into our own pockets to fund a private security service in order to feel safe in our homes. We're fed up.

As a resident of King Estates with family members living nearby, I strongly echo the sentiments of this letter. I did have more family in the area but some moved away precisely because of serious crime (car stolen twice, shot in a robbery at Coliseum BART, our closest station). This neighborhood has some wonderful residents who care about each other and the livability of our corner of Oakland. But we can't stem this crime wave by ourselves. We need help NOW.
