Letter to AACE Leadership re Upcoming Vote & Changes

Time to leave membership of national AACE if this continues.

Particularly with the move to virtual participation, AACE Chapters remain the best option to ensure a meaningful, broad-based, grassroots, physician-led "voice" for clinical endocrinologists and their patients. Separating them from the national organization for financial and/or legal liability reasons is one thing, but disenfranchisement threatens the core nature and reason for being of AACE.

Don't make AACE into another bureaucratic entity with their scant regard for the practicing endocrinologist who set up the organization to benefit the practicing endos and their patients

If the voices are not being heard, the checkbooks usually are.

With this outrageous move it is time for us, the clinical endocrinologist who feel ignored, to create AGAIN our own organization.

I was surprised and aghast by the changes and agree with the recommendations in the petition.

I see no need for such a rash change

This organization has strayed from its core principles over the last several years. The original intent was to provide a voice for clinicians. This is no longer the case. AACE has become no different than other organizations within the specialty.

I was a regional board member as well as a vice chair of a committee in AACE. The chapters are important. I noticed at the meeting in L.A. that my regional chapter was not even there. I found this odd. AACE used to be like family. That feeling is gone. I don't even feel like going to the meetings any more or continue my membership..

I feel that the regional and state chapters need to stay. I was a board member for 2 terms of my regional chapter. I met a lot of endocrinologists by being at my local chapter and mingling with members of other chapters.

Agree totally with the contents of the petition.

I believe there is strength in having a local presence.

I humbly disagree with this decision. Without grassroots activity provided by local chapters, the agenda of AACE as a whole becomes more difficult to push forward.

The most successful professional societies have always depended upon the duality of their role: to be an advocate for their members and , at the same time, helping their members be better at helping those they serve. The new proposed model is likely to fail at both.

Since I joined AACE as a resident in 2004 I was connected, nurtured, grew professionally, and networked that ultimately led me to my current position, all thanks to my regional AACE chapter. As I took on leadership positions regionally and at the national level, as the vice-Chair of Chapters, we welcomed more members and international chapters -- making AACE stronger, truly an international and diverse organization that we were all very proud of indeed. All of that came to a crashing halt with new leadership who sees no value in the chapters, when, in fact, the chapters have been part of the very backbone of the organization. AACE leadership has made yet another grave error and its time to own it, fix it, restore AACE as the voice of clinical endocrinologists for endocrinologists at all career stages; fight to eliminate MOC, be a powerful lobbying voice in Washington, DC, and truly serve us rank-and-file endocrinologists once again. I echo Dr. Kohl: AACE is abandoning local clinical Endocrinologists just as The Endocrine Society did decades ago. If this measure passes, there is no reason for me to belong to AACE.

I joined AACE at its inception, with the clear mission statement to represent CLINICAL endocrinologists, as opposed to the more academic bent of the Endocrine Society. Changing that mission is an abrogation of the basic, core value of AACE. I am dismayed.
