I was contacted today by the Village of Marine and was informed that this law was repealed in August of 2011. Apparently the woman that informed me otherwise didn't know what she was talking about and thought that the banning of Pitbulls was correct. That was not the case. I am overly pleased about this, also, because the new law states that "Vicious dogs" are targeted and nothing Breed-specific is in effect. I thank each and every one of you that has signed this petition and hope for your support in the future, because I intend to target Bond County, IL next. This petition will be removed in the next couple days. Thank you all, again!

Breed Specific Legislation (BSL) does nothing but cost the taxpayers money and provide a false sense of security. BSL is over inclusive, as dogs are as varied within their breed, as are human beings within our ethnicity. Banning specific breeds of dogs because they are feared to be aggressive is the same as saying a certain ethnicity in human beings are better than another ethnicity. BSL does not address the irresponsible dog owner. More dog bites happen due to improper attention or training than because of the breed personalities. BSL does, however, punish the law abiding, responsible dog owner, by making them lose their beloved pet just because of what the dog looks like. Breed-specific legislation is opposed by the ADBA, AKC, UKC, EBA, the American Veterinary Medical Association, the National Animal Control Association, the ASPCA, and a host of national animal welfare organizations that have studied the issue and recognize that targeting breeds simply does not work.
