At 5pm on Thursday, there is a public hearing, conducted by the mayor, to get input from the residents concerning chickens in pens in our backyards. The public hearing is to hear from the residents both pro and con.
At the present time, there are three known residents with chickens and if the national averages were followed, we might have as many as ten who want backyard chickens.

The mayor still thinks he can ignore us while he hides behind these outdated city ordinances that treat a simple backyard coop like a public hazard. Show up at the hearing to make sure they understand we are tired of the city controlling what we do on our own property.

We need to be a chicken friendly community. City officials worry about who would enforce it. Neighbors will complain if chicken owners aren’t following the guidelines. Let’s regulate it and do it. Animals are good for us.
We need to encourage more natural foods, and this is one way to do that.
Don't discriminate against the ladies! Progressive smart cities and communities all over the country allow chickens.
I think there should just be a limit on how many chickens per acre or quarter acre or whatever. Maybe 4 chickens per acre?
Chickens are gooood! People who don’t allow chickens are baaaad!
I do support the freedom of residents to house and raise chickens
Pro-chicken. We have chickens and have enjoyed teaching our children responsibility and love eating the eggs. Down with chicken gate.

Backyard chickens are a delight and boon for families and, especially, their children. As a former 4-H member (beef cattle), I can attest to the skills and character development. Animal husbandry brings to a household. And, there is almost nil health risk.
