This week is Public Health Week and Earth Day is April 22nd! Join us by signing this letter of support for making TCMC more earth friendly and improving the public health of our local community!

As a medical school designed to address the health needs of Northeastern Pennsylvania, we the students and community of The Commonwealth Medical College believe that our institution should do everything it can to decrease our negative impact on the environment. In addition to the many environmentally conscious efforts already in place at TCMC, we request that our cafeteria and food service departments adopt sustainable food containers and move toward a zero-waste policy. Discontinuing our daily use of plastic and Styrofoam can have a meaningful impact on the amount of trash we produce each day, which over time, helps to improve the health and vibrancy of our local community. We believe that TCMC should be an area leader not only in health and social responsibility, but in sustainability as well. In preliminary student polls to gauge interest in sustainable containers notwithstanding an increase in cafe prices, the response was overwhelmingly positive. We are grateful for your consideration in this matter, and we look forward to compostable and recyclable food service materials in the near future.
