The city finally approved the full off-leash designation for Harmony Valley Park. I am incredibly relieved that our dogs can finally run free in the space we fought for together. We have reached our goal but let us keep an eye on the park to ensure this new rule is …

We the undersigned do hereby petition the City of Oshawa for the designation of Harmony Valley Dog Park as entirely off leash

Updates

September 20, 2015

Seeing two hundred and fifty signatures for the Harmony Valley park is honestly overwhelming because I know how much my own dog misses running free in those open fields. It means so much to see our local community rally behind this space that has brought my family so much joy.

I have been spending my mornings at the park watching the dogs navigate the current restrictions and it is clear that our community needs more space to run free. I am currently putting together a formal proposal for the city council based on all the stories you have shared with me about why this change is necessary.

I have been going to this park daily for seven years and have never once had a problem with people or dogs. It would be such a proud and awesome move for Oshawa to make Harmony Park completely off leash

My dog loves the dog park and playing in the creek. Having to leash him through the majority of the dog park is no fun for either of us. Please change the by-law to have the entire park off-leash except the parking lot. Thank-you.

every other park in Oshawa is a leashed park the people that prefer having their dogs leashed can enjoy. We have 1 park that our dogs enjoy being leash free and the water pond is in the leashed area.

I bring my dog to this park all the time. I leave her off leash like many other people do. I think that this is a great area to do this. It helps to keep harmony at the park because many people have dogs that are protective while on leash. It also helps to socialize dogs since they won't feel threatened or confined.

Definitely should be all off-leash. Dogs will then be free to interact naturally without the influence of their owner on the other end of the leash. The result: fewer altercations!

There are many trails and conservation areas that can be enjoyed on leash and by the general public. Harmony Valley is the one place I can go and enjoy with my dog to go swimming and on long hikes. It's great for his stimulation and therefore promotes good behaviour.

I fully agree with this petition as I bring my own dogs to the park and hate having to put them back on their leashes.

This park should be completely leash free.... the best parts of the park where the dogs can run and explore are the trails. The water which is where dogs can enjoy and romp should be leash free. Extending to these areas would be beneficial to all. Running with a huge group in an open field is great but doesn't allow for the dogs to explore and venture about
