Let the East Beach Hotel carry on trading and let common sense prevail.

This is an outrage! You only have to look at the property and see that common sense should prevail and support the owner. The windows look fine.

We need to move on. It looks no differnt.

I have been a guest at this hotel for many years. The improvements have been wonderful. Cooler in summer, warmer in winter. They make sense. The sunlounge is now a tranquil place to sit and watch the sea. Previously it was not possible, no ventilation or too cold. Let this hotel go from strength to strength and just get better. The councillors should be put out to pasture as they seem to be big fossils, so out of touch with the reality of running a business in this day and age.

I am appalled that it has got to this stage. It should have been granted planning retrospectively. Has EBC looked at the mess that they have allowed on the seafront. It is wrong to try to Inforce something that 's unpractical in the harsh elements on the seafront requiring too much Maintaince. This is a huge waste of everybody's money, especially Tax Payers. Let the Windows remain for the greater good of the hotel and tourism.

What a joke its a great hotel and looks very smart give them support for making our town a bettervplace !!!

Preserve the look of the seafront with any Windows whatever the materials used if they are in keeping, When those original windows were made the upvc ones were not invented, now they are good. Too much is destroyed due to local councils trying to preserve and actually doing more damage in the long run as some buildings fall into disrepair due to their decisions......if they had allowed slight repairs then buildings would still be there today

The new Windows look lovely and have made the hotel look better. Why waste tax payers money on something that isn't necessary. Wooden Windows don't make sense directly in the seafront.

Stupid telling them to take them out. I think along with a lot of other people they look fine a save money

Totally disagree with this, whats wrong with upvc? looks fine to me. What about all the other hotels with upvc, a totally unnecessary rule. Should do away with it altogether

So, at the time these windows were installed, the East Beach Hotel wasn't on this 'locally listed' list.....this was something announced by EBC sometime after the event of the windows being installed! If it was indeed the intent of EBC to either add this building to an existing 'locally listed' list, or create a new 'locally listed' list just for this building, would it not be common practise that EBC would have notified the owners of their intention to do so? Or maybe (and indeed more likely) this intention was decided some time after the windows were installed. Perhaps EBC can produce some documentation to prove their intent, that pre dates the installation of the new windows. I also saw the tv coverage of this on South East Today a couple of days ago. It was covered in such a way that, that in my opinion, was deliberately detrimental to the owners situation. The majority of people would not know from the other side of the promenade whether these new windows were of wood, upvc, or powder coated aluminium construction. The profiles look almost, if not identical to the old rotten sash wooden windows that I remember seeing there before. However, the few members of the public that were chosen to speak, managed to identify that they were upvc construction from that distance! I am in the building trade and have installed both wood and upvc windows....I would have needed to look closer to arrive at that conclusion. There are a considerable number of windows in this building and installing the new ones would have taken place over several weeks/months, depending on the number of workmen involved. How come EBC didn't stop the works from being completed during those weeks/months? I am sure many members of EBC and indeed the planning department, must drive, cycle or walk this route on a reasonably frequent basis. Could it be that they were unable to notice whether the replacements were of wood or upvc construction? If I were in the owners shoes, then I would have

Let's be sensible the hotel now looks fantastic and numerous people that stay there have said how lovely it is ,the 16 jobs are also essential for the area cut the rediculous red tape organised by a council man who did not come clean with his interest in the hotel until pushed by the solicitor dishonest or not ? is he fit to be on the council at all ? NO that's the problem with many councils they look after themselves I VOTE keep the hotel as it is

These windows are not offensive, but very appropriate for location on the sea front with the elements.

Let business grow

I really feel that this is completely unjust. Firstly, the hotel looks extremely neat and welcoming. Secondly, the pvc windows are much more appropriate for the location as wooden frames are more likely to rot, deteriorate and suffer from corrosion from the sea air. Thirdly, it feels to me that there has been a huge conflict of interest and that any member of the council could have been influenced by the Councillor who was not successful in obtaining the property. In my mind, a completely independent party should have undertaken any form of inspection. I do hope common sense prevails and that any appeal hearing sees all the politics behind it.

Absolutely ridiculous. Does anybody really care what the windows are made of? If anybody does feel free to pay for them out of your own pocket.

I think this is beyond a joke council are crooks if the inspectors actually had a clue about maintenance and cost effectiveness when coming to maintaining a hotel they would be approving the newer window rather than the costly wooden ones which will due to being on the seafront and with are lovely weather we have will not last very long. I highly approve of the newer windows keeps the hotel looking fresh and up to date
