Let Students Choose their Senior Photo for their Yearbook

This is ridiculous

Students have been taking the same school photos as everyone else since before they were in first grade. By senior year we have the right to be original and unique with OUR pictures. We pay this much money on the year book, we should be able to have our own personal pictures in them like everyone else the years before. So thank you for taking a stand and starting up this petition.

This is ridiculous !!! Seniors have always been able to make their photos unique and now thats getting taken from them also risking the kids who cant afford this places prices on top of students dues just to get the year book and the price of the book itself!!!!

I'm curious how a publicly funded school can prevent the public's children from having the photographer/photograph of their choice in the yearbook. Just because the school signed a contract, it does not bind parents or students to the contract- a contract which, as I understand it, says that, if ML will photograph the school games for free, the school will force parents/students to work solely with ML for senior photos. If the school is paid for with the public's tax dollars, I wonder just how long they think they can bully the public.

I have two children, both went to Memorial. My son had his senior pictures taken by the photographer suggested by the yearbook staff - Rheault. His pictures cost me more than $300 and I didn't get the most expensive package by far. The following year, my daughter had her pics taken by another local photographer at half the cost. As far as quality goes, I think they were comparable. My feeling is that if the format the pictures are given to the yearbook staff meets the requirements, why does it matter who takes the photo.

I no longer have children in school in MSD, but I whole heartedly agree with this photographer. These kids and their families should be able to pick who they want to take their pictures for their senior pictures. The cost senior year is crazy enough w/o the added stress of using a required photographer. If the picture meets the requirements of the year book nothing else should matter. Not all families can financially afford Mark Lawrence or any other high cost photographer. These kids have enough pressure on them, this shouldn't be another.

Let students decide .. Some of us can't afford the high prices...

I went to Nashua High North and my graduating year they started to require us to use Mark Lawrence too. I hated it because my best friends mom is a photographer and took better pictures of me for free! I hope the the current Manchester students can get what they want!!

Freedom of expression

This has always been a problem. Parents and students are getting ripped off because of a "contract" made between the school and a photographer without giving the end consumer the chance to weigh in.

If they won't budge I say let students interested in photography take photos for those that can't afford our don't want to use ML.

You should have the right to go to whomever you would like to get your Sr. pictures done.

This situation is also happening in several other school districts in the Manchester area :(

Allow the students to choose their own photos and vendor.

God forbid we allow a little diversity in yearbook photos. Let the student/family choose. What difference does it make?

When I went to Central, it was a struggle to come up with the money to go to the required photographer. It is not about a photographers income. It's not about contracts. It's about the kids. They should have the right to choose their photographer and photo. Why cause undue stress to a family and their finances when they are already trying to come up with college tuition, required supplies, and transportation. Besides, if you are that great of a photographer, the families that can afford you will continue to go to you. Simple.

Marc Lawrence is very expensive. Not everyone can afford to pay crazy money for pictures. This should be an individual choice.

There should be options for students and families to choose who they want for their photographer for senior pictures as long as it follows the format required for the yearbook.

Kids and families should be able to choose their photographer . For their taste and budget .

Let seniors choose how they want to take a picture. It is their last year!
