I have the same Primary Immune Disease that Noah has. It is very rare and life altering. We don't get a day off from the literally life threatening disease and although there is a treatment (IG infusion) it does not cure you. You somehow have to go through this tough life and still be a good citizen and a mom or dad or student or whatever you are. Please don't make Noah pay for what our terrible illness takes away from us.

This young man has had to deal with more than going to class and doing homework. His illness is not an extra-curricular activity. It's something he has to live with every single day of his life. I would be curious to know how many students will be walking across the stage that have been in trouble, suspended, or have had poor grades. Mr. Gorrell, you've dug yourself into a hole, you've put a black mark on the entire graduating class, and it's time you dig yourself out and let this kid participate in graduation!

If he has accommodation to turn in late work, let him walk. This is what an iep is for.

Like Noah, I am immunodeficient. We cannot help getting infections, and do everything we can to prevent them. Noah should be allowed to walk with his class, but not actually receive his diploma until he completes his work. Give him a blank piece of paper on the day or a promise of his diploma when he completes his requirements. I can't believe there needs to be a petition to try to organise this. This situation would never occur at my sons'school in Australia.

I've never had reason to be ashamed of being from Verona....until now. How short sighted of the administrators to not see that this action could have long term repercussions. Who would want to move here now?

How disappointing that
1. the school can't acknowledge their mistake in failing to notify Noah earlier, and
2. Isn't the staff is responsible for shaping our children by setting the right example. This is their choice? Shame on them! They are failing ALL of this class and are a true embarrassment to their profession.

Verona has always let students walk who were able to finish credits in the summer. Just don't put the diploma in the folder! I am disappointed that you would do this to an ill student and yet are tolerant of so much with students less worthy.

My son has this same condition in Antigo, WI and it breaks my heart that he might have this same discrimination against him as a high schooler.
