Let Mr. Fish teach at Easley High School

Am I reading correctly, here? Is my literary discernment correct that an amazing teacher and mentor of language arts has been removed from their employ because of language? I regret to point out the irony and soil my love of irony with this unfortunate event. Hey, I had a calculus teacher that regularly used tangents. She made me explore every reachable aspect of mathematics I had never even imagined. Perhaps her employment should be called into question, too? Come on, South Carolina. I hesitate to say you're better than this- but you can be. It's not like he encouraged equal rights, integration, acceptance; Concepts I've been forced to assume cause distaste in the Carolina pallet. from what I read in the comments, he inspired kids to engage in thought. To passionately pursue betterment of their minds and their overall personhood. Is this something South Carolina is so egregiously opposed to the facilitation of thought and compassion that they glom onto a word and use it to terminate a superb educator? Are "thought" and "growth" naughty words? I refuse to accept he was terminated for the reason presented. What's actually going on, here? To the other reasonable people outraged by this nonsense: take solace in the fact that this man will continue to educate in whatever setting he finds himself. It is a damn shame that his natural affinity to educate isn't being nourished in your facility, but I'm certain he will continue to grow, teach, and inspire. Shame on you, Easley High administration. Hopefully compassion and willingness to reconsider isn't such an arduous endeavor.

Mr fish was one of the best and most caring teacher I had at ehs. This really is sad after all he gave and put in to the students and the shool

I only hope that my future high schoolers will have a teacher that inspires the same love and respect as Mr. Fish has garnered here today.

I would like to point out that not only was this a college level Literature course, this was the 5th English credit for these students. They did not need to take this class, they were all set after 4 English credits. They chose to take this class and knew what the content would be like and they knew Fish. They should've all been fully prepared for it and I believe that they probably were. As seniors, I'm sure they have all heard the F word and so much worse on a daily basis. If Mr. Fish needs reprimanding, I think that is reasonable, but to force him to leave the job that he has given all of his love and passion into is so wrong. This man and his family does not deserve this in any way. Mr. Fish has done so much for Easley and it's sad and absurd that this is the way Easley treats him after 16 years. I am grateful for the few months I had him as a teacher, but hate looking into the future knowing he won't finish teaching my class.

Greg Fish is worth standing up for. He puts his heart and soul into his craft of teaching. Stand strong!

Throughout my education in Pickens County, I can truly say Fish was one of the rare teachers that showed a passion for his subject. I sat in many classes where the teacher looked like they would rather be anywhere but teaching. Never in Fish's class was that feeling prevalent. Fish inspired me to connect to literature and think critically. I never felt like I was memorizing anything for a test, but instead I truly wanted to learn the material. I'm sorry this is happening to one of the most irreplaceable teachers out there. I am a better person overall because of Greg Fish. C/O 2008

No one should be censored. In a literary evironment, all ideas & concepts should be available for exploration.

Stupid decisions like this by our elected officials are the reason are children read at a 5th grade level in high school, stop taking a teachers ability to teach away..

This is crazy. I have two boys in their early 20's. I have always been a supporter of free speech. This man used a word all these kids hear probably many times a day. If you don't think so your not involved with your teens at all. My kids also taught me about how we asign value to words. They are just words. Good teachers are hard to come by.

No substitute can replace Fish for the rest of the year. No teacher can replace Fish for the years to come.

As a retired teacher of 37 years with experience in college and high school I am shocked to hear of Mr. Fish's dismissal. I know how hard it is to find good teachers like Mr. Fish. Listen to these students as they are telling you what a great teacher he is. How can such an outrage happen to this dedicated teacher. I do know Mr. Fish personally and this family and you will not find any better people in our community. Easley High School needs to take a hard look at itself. There is still time to do the right thing and keep Mr. Fish in their school so he can continue to teach and enrich the life of his students.
