A great English teacher is a treasure that all students should have the opportunity to enjoy! My life was changed by an amazing English teacher in high school and these students should have the same chance with Mr. Fish. He sounds wonderful, engaging, and has obviously won the respect and love of his students, which is difficult these days.

Do you have any understanding at all about literature?! Literature is designed to provoke critical thought. It's a commentary of political systems, cultures, race, and religion. It's a conversation with a reader. Censoring material is fascism and that is not a tenet of the public education system: that's the hallmark of a private religious school. Your students are tested at a NATIONAL level. Are you purposely trying to leave them at the back of the pack? Signed with love and support to smart students and their dedicated teacher from an English teacher at a high school in NJ who will never allow someone else's religious beliefs to coopt the learning of students in a public SECULAR school.

Good grief, these are high school seniors. As someone with a long family history in Easley going back generations, I am disappointed that the school system has chosen to wrap students who are about to go on to the real world and college in bubble wrap rather than prepare them for it. How embarrassing.

Using crude language in an educational setting is much more respectful than the wide variety of other ways high school-aged children will come across such words. Sex happens, the outcome will be much worse for students who aren't educated about it in advance.

To remove a high school teacher for challenging their students with reading material is insane. Trust your students. They are not as young, naive, gullable, innocent, frail, or fragile as you believe them to be. Broaden their horizons. Don't limit them.

My daughter is in one of Fish's Literature classes and everyday she comes home talking about what she learned and what she plans to write about. She has not only become a stronger writer, but a better speaker by being in his class. He teaches his students to not censor themselves, and by doing so he has given them a passion about writing and also about him. Mr. Fish (or Fish as they all know him) should be reinstated and this should have never been an issue. The AP placement parents as a whole should have been included in this decision, not just one parents judgmental attitude who cannot begin to understand the grasp that this man has had on the Easley High School students past and present.

I'm an EHS alumni. I had him as my English teacher, and he is one of the few teachers I've ever seen or had that actually makes you think about things and work hard for your grade and really study. A silly little poem should not end his career. Some people just take things way too seriously.
