I had Mr. Fish as a sophomore in his English 3 Honors class. I was shy, timid, and constantly terrified of failing. Through learning from him I gained confidence in my abilities and today I am a high school teacher! The thought of making him and many other teachers at EHS proud made me push through college and pursue a career I would have never dreamed of! I know as teachers we have to be politically correct and morally sound, but how many other teachers would be fired for their language? Think about it! There would be such a shortage of teachers NO ONE would be able to fill the spots! So why pull him from the classroom? Seriously, Mr. Fish, COME TEACH AT MY SCHOOL!!

I'm not from Easley, but a friend sent me this way to this petition. I can understand, having had an AP English Literature teacher myself.
Reading a poem/short story/book that has a cuss/swear is honoring the original text of the author. Doing so otherwise dulls the original meaning of the story.
A teacher being fired for reading a poem is blatant censorship and let alone pure stupidity. I hope that the administration of Easley Highschool will reverse their decision of firing Mr. Fish.

We can not let teachers like this leave the profession. The average tenure is five years before teachers burn out and give up. . We can do better than this as s nation.

I haven't had him as a teacher yet but i have met him and i can tell you he is a wonderful guy. He did nothing wrong and everyone loves him. Poetry shouldn't be limited.

I never had Mr. Fish but many of my friends have his class. including my older brother a few years ago.

Well, I believe everyone who knows me realizes how I feel about censorship and the abomination that is known as the "Politically Correct" movement! So let me inform everyone how I feel about Mr. Greg Fish... I have for many years counted him as a personal friend. Over the many years that I have known him, he has continually proven himself to be someone who generally cares for the children of our community. I, and many others, have witnessed him "stepping up" to get involved and put forth great efforts to teach and engage our children in school and in church. In an age where many teachers simply "phone it in" he has always stood out. I'd like to say that I was "shocked" at how the administration at Easley High School has conducted themselves, but sadly I am not. I attended EHS as a child. My son also briefly attended EHS until I realized that the school hadn't changed since my time there... It had in fact somehow managed to get worse! The administration at EHS is a joke... I have personally had the chance (on more than a few occasions) to observe them choosing to cover their own inept behinds over what is best for the kids in their care. Greg Fish is an extraordinary educator (and person) that our community cannot afford to loose! I stand firmly back-to-back with Mr. Fish on this issue.

This man like just a handful of others actually cares about students and their futures. I had many friends who had this man as a teacher and they became better people because of how he taught and helped. The fact the administration would do this because of a quote is insanely ridiculous.

I was in the first year class that Mr Fish taught at Easley high school, and I can say without a doubt that teaching English is where he belongs. He makes everything more visual and puts it into a perspective that you can relate to. Not only that but an all around good guy who genuinely wants you to not only learn about and analyze classic example literature, but to enjoy the story and the process as it unfolds.

I was in of Mr. Fish's original English 3 classes in 2000. Mr. Fish provided me many tools not only for education, but also for living life and having a passion for everything you do. To remove him as an educator would be a disservice to current EHS students and also the Easley community, as he is an educator who truly cares and brings his passion for education to his students every day.

Fish is my all time favorite teacher. I was a very bad student but Fish developed in me a love of literature that changed my life. What a great man and one of the only a few teachers that I still remember by name.
