Mr. Fish taught my daughter and is teaching my son. He coached CC for a while and all of the athletes loved him as far as we could tell. You could definitely see how much he cared for them on and off the course. He had the same commitment and care for ALL the students at EHS. He IS a terrific teacher and mentor! We in Pickens County already struggle to attract and keep good teachers because of the salary differences between this and surrounding counties. I believe that we have GREAT teachers here because of their calling to the schools and our students. Our students deserve better instruction and removing teachers of such quality as Mr. Fish only impedes the individual student's learning as well as our county's overall success. Please bring Mr. Fish back!

I hope that due consideration will be given for the enormous, positive impact that Mr Fish's teaching has had on the students at EHS. Mr Fish's departure would be a great loss for the school and community. We all have faults and failings in life. The hope of each of us is that others will grant us compassion, grace and ultimately forgiveness as we each try to become better. Therefore, we should make every effort to extend compassion, grace and forgiveness to others. This is what Christ commands of all Christians.

Two of my sons were privileged to sit under Mr. Fish's teaching for English 3 and AP Lit. Though neither of them are readers, they have been pushed to excel. My oldest knows that his college paper writing is better because of Mr. Fish's instruction. Not only is Mr. Fish competent in his subject area, but he is a gifted motivator. As I have read some of these comments, I've been most impressed that Mr. Fish makes all students at EHS feel valuable, even if they aren't enrolled in his classes.

Mr. Fish has always been a great teacher and did his job very well!! I hated English until I had him as a teacher. He wasn't a traditional teacher and that's what made him awesome!!!

Censorship is crap. Let teachers teach. I guarentee you it is no students first time hearing that word and won't be their last. If they are old enough to go see a PG-13 movie what's the difference?

I'm an upcoming author of multi-cultural literature in the children's and fiction genres. (My works are clean, by the way, but I prefer them to be.) From an author's standpoint, no literature is meant to be censored. I also happen to be a former PHS student and had the awesome Dr. Hicks for AP Lit back in 2007. I currently live as a writer and educator in Beijing, China. Censorship is typical of China. Not the US. When I attended PHS, Dr. Hicks assigned us "A Prayer for Owen Meany" - a book full of F*** words because of the hardship of Vietnam. Life is full of uncomfortable truth and uncomfortable language. Is EHS aiming to prepare students for citizenship in a society that requires mature input or for living under a censored and sheltered rock? I can assure you that EHS has more F*** coming from the mouths of students and the movies on their iPads than the literature on their desks.

I don't know Mr. Fish, but I abhor censorship. I also abhor pandering. The students know that this is a bad word. They also understand the context in which this word was used in the reading of a poem. Let's stop underestimating these young students and their ability to use their own developing judgement.

Without Mr. Fish, the quality of education received at EHS will greatly diminish. He prepares his students for college and life. We need educators who teach critical thinking. We need freedom of expression. We need to recognize that life and college courses are not censored. Please do not rob students of learning from the best teacher in the world.
