My Grandsons have told me that Mr. Fish is an excellent teacher, he should be re-instated. The administration would do well to examine the context of the word he used and if appropriate ask him to apologize to whoever was offended. The action the school took seems to me to be another of those "zero tolerance rules" that take away the ability of administrators to think as they can point to some inane rule and never have to think for themselves.

While I personally do not like the "f" word and I cringe when I hear it, I do not think this incident warrants the dismissal of such an exceptional teacher as Mr Fish. I don't necessarily think it's appropriate to use it in the classroom or on a class assignment, and I could certainly understand him receiving some sort Of a reprimand or warning, but again, I do not think he should have been forced to resign. Mr Fish is one of those teachers that inspires greatness in his students and teaches them lessons that they will carry with them for the rest of their lives. He is one of the teachers that makes students see betond themselves. For years I have heard so many stories about his classes and I have yet to ever hear a negative comment made about him. Everyone who had him loved him. Of course this is not about being a lovable guy. This is about him being an exceptional teacher who may have used a slight error in judgement because *gasp* he's human. I think it would be a crying shame if Mr Fish is not reinstated to do what he does so well. A reprimand regarding the use of language would have been sufficient. Easley High School and Pickens County are messing up big time if they do not bring him back. We need Mr Fish and more teachers like him if we really want to see our students excel in life.

Mr. Fish was an incredibly positive influence on my son. He taught my son correct grammar and punctuation while never ignoring literary analysis and critical thinking. Why in the world wouldn't you want him teaching our children?????

You guys got rid of the one teacher who could inspire students and made school for thousands of kids. Way to go, getting rid of people like this is why this current generation does not know how to spell or use grammar or even compose a proper sentence.

Mr. Fish was the best teacher I had at Easley High. Probably the best English teacher I have had. He taught me to read with the intent of a deeper understanding. Pushing him out of Easley is not only deplorable, but unconstitutional.

If we don't teach kids to respect words we can only expect them to be used incorrectly. We can only expect ignorance for our population. One couple complaining about one lesson in a college level course should not constitute termination of a highly respected teacher - ESPECIALLY a teacher whose students are doing so much in his name. As an EHS alum I have come to expect knee-jerk reactions from County Admin. The fact is that this was a literature class and good literature is not sterile. Good literature gives rise to important discussions about many topics - this time the discussion has become censorship and undoubtedly separation of church and state. Curse words are a problem because of religious beliefs and to fire Fish for the use of a curse word is to cross that line.

Every person who has experienced the provocative teaching methods that Fish employs is better for it. Students need teachers who push the boundaries. It's a shame that not everyone can see the value in it.

I graduated class of 2009 as an honors graduate because of Mr. Greg Fish. He was a very influential part of my high school years and he continued as a mentor even after. I suffered a traumatic brain injury in 2009 and Mr. Fish came to check on me and my family while I was in the hospital. He continued to encourage my recovery and check on me after I had been released from the hospital. Even with a brain injury, I still remember the things that he taught us and still have a passion for reading books. No, his class was not an "easy A", but that is what made it so much better. He challenged each and every person he saw in that school and he will never be forgotten. It's a shame that some stupid, sheltered kid who wasn't willing to expand his knowledge had to ruin the future educational opportunity for so many students.

As a teacher I support a colleague. I don't know the complete story but from what I have read, reading a word in a poem or story is completely different from cursing out a student. Smh Easley....reevaluate the situation...do any of their coaches curse at players? If you say no then you are naive and fooling yourself.

I am very impressed with Mr.Fish. I believe the School Board is making a mistake in dismissing him. When students make a stand for one of their teachers it just shows me that he is worth fighting for.
