Time for my church to start acting like a mature grownup organization that builds a safe community and prioritizes people over institution and recieves inspired feedback from its members rather than from only the top down.

I grew up believing LDS Church leaders were mandatory reporters. It breaks my heart that I was mislead. They should be mandatory reporters.

Exmormon ,after meeting and married a man from ldssingles. com who just used and mistreated me and even sold my house so that we could buy one together well, he didn’t help with the down payment. Lesson learned

It’s asinine to me that we have to petition for common sense. Come on Mormons, we can do better.

There is no excuse for leadership not reporting abuse. It's disgusting that followers of Christ would not make victims the absolute number 1 priority.

I know of too many victims who continued to suffer & be abused due to lack of clergy reporting. Please put victims first! Victims need to be the priority, not the church institution or abuser. This is not a new concept. Do better!

I’m horrified by the church’s methods of “protecting the good name of the church” at the expense of literal children

As a victim myself, and a mother now I'd prefer making sure this people won't be able to serve on callings alone with children. I'm all for forgiveness but not putting someone else at risk

I appreciate those taking time and effort to garner signatures for this petition, and hope church leaders will give it serious, prayerful consideration. Requiring bishops and actually all church leaders to be mandatory reporters of sexual or any other type of abuse- especially of children- seems essential if we are following the Savior’s teachings and the love and care he showed to children! As for the abuser, don’t we believe in obeying and sustaining the law? Wouldn’t part of the repentance process include accepting ALL consequences of one’s actions, including legal ones?

It is frankly APPALLING that an organization claiming to be God’s one true church, wouldn’t do EVERYTHING in its power preemptively to protect innocent children in its congregations. DO BETTER!

We have a sacred responsibility to protect all children of God—all ages, at all times. The very least we can do is make all church leaders, especially those interacting with youth and young children, mandatory reporters.

The safety of our vulnerable should be of great concern.
