Make LDS Leaders Mandatory Reporters

It’s unacceptable that abuse is allowed to continue and is constantly covered up. This is why people leave. Be better. Protect victims, not abusers. Abusers need to be held accountable. How can a church say they follow any teachings of Jesus when they allow this behavior, and encourage it by not stopping it?

Girls are afraid to report abuse because they will have their own consequences for “immorality” this is not safe, not healthy, and not Christlike.

We should protect the vulnerable at all costs. When institutions allow abuse to happen they are a huge part of the problem. If we are really His church then we should be protecting His children.

My dad’s a pedo who is the hand of god at the temple veil. The church knows. They don’t listen to me. And my last bishop was a peeping tom. The stake president covered for him hard.

100% agree with this. Reporting to actual law enforcement should be mandatory.

To the men who “failed” to report my abuse, the men continued to welcome their “brother”. To the bishop who told a 12yr girl that “god never gives us more than we can handle” after being raped.

The fact that this continues is disgusting. For the love of all the children who have endured this…make them mandated reporters!

The decision about how to respond to an accusation of abuse should be made by someone who is unbiased. Most church leaders feel very strongly the desire to protect the church’s good name, and so they cannot be unbiased. Therefore, they should be required to report everything to local authorities and then make an unbiased decision on how to address the abuse.

The church has lost the trust of millions due to its blatant refusal to protect the most vulnerable among us - the ones Jesus Himself protected and instructed to protect. How dare you call yourself the church of Jesus Christ and act the opposite of Him.

Stop protecting the institution and start protecting the victims. Stop protecting bad men and start putting policies in place to protect our women and children.

My own bishop and stake president failed me when my (now ex) husband was abusing me and my kids. They knew about it. They called him to work with the YM and then had to release him because he couldn’t pass the Boy Scout background check due to a founded CPS case. One bishop asked why I was in his office asking for help from him, asked if I knew how stressed my husband was, and told me it just takes a good woman to turn a man around. This is an abhorrent practice. All clergy should be mandated reporters.
