Keep fighting, Mom! Don't give up Kristy. If all else fails, apply for a city permit and twirl on public property in front of the stadium. It's time for band directors to stop making decisions about the sport of baton twirling. Man up school boards and do the right thing. All the big universities and many small colleges have twirlers and denying a twirler this kind of experience is so unfair. You should be celebrating this young girl, not denying her an opportunity to showcase her amazing skills in HER community. Why on earth do you not want to advance such talent in your own hometown? This is so crazy. Good for you, Mom, for stirring it up.

Let her twirl!!! She has been practicing her baton years longer than any flute or clarinet player in the band. Feature twirlers are a beautiful, class act! High Schools are suppose to provide opportunities for the students!!!!!

Bands are wonderful, but you need twirlers and guard to complete the show!

Im so tired of hearing about band directors excluding twirlers. Their ego cant stand the fact that the crowd likes to watch the twirler rather than the band - the band is there for the music. The twirler only highlights the music just like color guard

I was the coach of AGHS color guard. A twirler is exciting and can add to the overall entertainment value of the show.

Twirling has always been something I have looked forward to watching at 1/2 time since I was a little girl, I never had the self confidence to do it. Thank God that I have been blessed with an amazing grandaughter that is a twirler.. I love watching her and the other girls, be it on the field or at competitions.. The man needs to reconsider Have tryouts and let as many girls tryout and don't have just one.. you have a Line and a Feature.. He's just afraid it will take way from his precious band.. Does he not realize that Twirlers enhance the music...

Because we need more twirler in marching units. Bring back baton twirling!

if there is truely no interest we wouldn't be signing this petition. Let her twirl this year and after that if there is no one then cut it.

It is difficult to read this as we too have been treated the same way by our director. The excuse was because of scoring at competition. Well,our band did worse so I guess karma came back on the director. Every major university across the south (where we live) have majorettes and full lines---Auburn, Alabama, Georgia, Arkansas, Florida, Florida State, Texas, Texas State,, Stephen F Austin. Not allowing her to twirl is not thinking about the student.

Let this girl twirl! We had a senior this year that had multiple titles, she has been twirling since she was a small girl, her parents have spent thousands of dollars on her training and she couldn't even try out for college scholarships because she had no field experience thanks to the misguided band director at our local high school!! Shameful!!!

There are many colleges that have twirling...high school band directors need to realize they are preventing valuable experience for twirlers!!!
