It's not the fact that he does not want one. We all would respect that, but it's the fact that he lied to me. Freshman year he told me that the current feature twirler and I could tryout to see who was going to be the 2015 Feature Twirler. A week before tryouts, he emailed my mom and said he wanted to have a meeting in his office. At that meeting, he told me I could not tryout because he would not take that position away from the current feature twirler. That's when it crossed the line. He told my twirling instructor my fifth grade year that he could not wait to have me on the field. At the end of my eighth grade year, he told me to get one year (my freshman year) in on color guard so I could get used to being on the field and told me I could tryout at the end of that year. So, that's what I did. Then, he took everything back that he said. That's where the problem is. It wouldn't be a problem if he said he wanted to cut twirling from the beginning, but he led me on for years. That's what's messed up. For a thirty something year old man to do that to a teenage girl.

No one here truly understands the situation of the Band Director. Why should the Director put more stress and pressure on himself and THE BAND, just so one girl can have her way. Do we allow every student to have their way, just because they're gonna be a senior? Everyone here should respect the decision of the Band Director. And if he decides to no longer have a twirler, then that's his decision to make!

Baton Twirling is a Sport where these Twirlers work hard for many years of chipped teeth, split lips, turned ankles and sprained knees, bumps and many bruises. They prevail through much sweat, tears, and much determination just for one goal to show and perform a sport they Love! Any twirler who can maneuver a Baton at any speed SHOULD have every Right to Perform. Baton Twirling is NOT a dying Sport! Each weekend there are at least 150 to 200 girls at every competition around our State and other States Twirling and Competing! Having Baton Twirlers is just like having Color Gaurds/Flag Twirlers, it only enhances your Bands .
