Let Kristy Ward twirl for East Hall Band

This happens WAY too often. Let her shine on that football field!!!

My DM - and no, it doesn't men drum major - and a few of her colleagues and kin were majorettes who twirled baton in the Philippines. That nation takes baton twirling in the marching band VERY SERIOUSLY. Other nations doing so include Italy, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, and Belarus. I want to win over $200M in the lotto just to take band directors like him who are ignorant to include twirlers at halftime and competitions because they distract from field drills, are most prone to mistakes compared to color guard, and have less visual impact on drill design on vacation to such nations that show that it's possible to integrate them into marching band drills and to have them see those nations' bands! They can be as impactful as color guards - all ignorant directors need are THE RIGHT PEOPLE! WAKE UP!!!

All too familiar. As a twirling coach I have seen my students go thru this type of discrimination. Instead of promoting students who have talent and keeping them busy and interested in school and the arts; they place barriers in front of them.

Being a color guard member, I resonate with this girl. Although it's not the same, i still feel for her. Please let her twirl.

We thought the same thing and so we started a twirling club and bought uniforms ourselves. The twirlers put routines together and their classmates loved it and said they were better than the dance team. They performed for football games and basketball. If he says there is no interest, he hasn't been to a national competition!

Great twirlers get more eyes on your band and the field!! It's a shame not to let these twirlers showcase their talents just like musicians and athletes get to do every year.

Please let baton twirlers show their sport. They put in a lot of hours and dedication. No different than a cheerleader, basketball player, football player, band member or any other student that takes the time and initiative to do something for themselves.

I would seek legal action!

Band directors are killing the sport of baton twirling by not allowing her to be out on the field and to be seen. Let her twirl and let her sport be seen!

After twirling through high school then onto WCU field in Cullowhee, NC, I had a daughter who followed my footsteps into twirling her high school years. These were great years building close friendships that have lasted over 20 years. Keep the twirlers! they are beautiful, talented, atheletic and a wonderful example for girls and boys coming in future years to proudly perform with their high school band.

Your band director should watch a video of what the Reigning half-time champions, the Mentor High Majorettes, can do. He should be ashamed of himself for not agreeing to let this young lady participate in her chosen sport!

So sad that this community is not getting to see this girl's twirling ability. If this isn't allowed to happen there should be a twirl team started Please please let this child showcase her talent

Allow the baton twirlers in your area showcase their talent that contributes in a positive way to your band and community

All the college bands have twirlers now. She needs the HS experience to have a better chance of making a college position. Many colleges are offering scholarships to twirlers. I'm very involved in my alma mater Purdue University. All the twirlers on the All American Twirling Team get some financial assistance. The 4 features get a substantial scholarship assistance. Please give her the opportunity to further her dream.
