Research is absolutely behind this request. Play kncreases attention , cuts down on misbehavior.

There is a wealth of research on this topic...increased recess has a positive impact on academics, allows children to focus better in class, benefits their social interactions/development, and improves their overall health/well-being.

At my daughter's private school, they have two separate outdoor play times; one in the morning and one after lunch. The kids at that school are happy and focused. They have wonderful results. I would hope that public school children can experience this, too.

More recess will help children socially, emotionally, cognitively, and physically. The rest of the school day will be much more successful by these additional 30 minutes of play.

I have experienced the backlash of only 20 minutes of recess. It has not helped children. They need exercise Even as adults it is recommended that we get up every two hours stretch walk anything to promote good health and remain alert while on the job

Many kids do not receive the necessary "outside time" they need to stay healthy. School, for some, is the only time they have to go outside and play.

I think the evidence that more play time for children increases learning and well-being is very established. I hope schools will support this evidence-based practice.

Our kids need a well-rounded education that includes time for them to interact with their classmates to develop social and physical skills in addition to their academics. Studies have shown students perform better academically when they have more recess time.

I would also suggest that there be two times a day where the children can exercise and get some fresh air.

One can look to the changes at Eagle Mountain Elementary School in Fort Worth Texas as evidence that increased recess positively affects academic outcomes. They tripled the amount of recess time, from 20 minutes to an hour, and their students are behaving better and scoring higher.

More recess!!! So necessary for kids...they need more time to let their minds grow and flourish in the fresh air and take more breaks from the rigor of the school day.

Kids should be kids! Allow them the time to grow and flourish on the playground.
