I don’t know Katie, or go to this school... but after reading the comments I would like to believe that she has accomplished many things and should speak at her graduation... everyone makes mistakes. And this world is not perfect and no one’s perfect either. I hope everything works out!!!

What is WakefieldHS problem? Who are the administrators that are taking away something she has worked hard for? Katie has done more in 4 years than any other Student at Wakefield. Do children make mistakes? Yes, but what the principal should do is allow her accomplishments & leadership to dictate his decision to speak. She has earned it. One night defines four years. Get it together WakefieldHS and support Katie. Based on if it was you, then you would hope that you your school would advocate for you then punish you.

I have known Katie Bynum for 7 years and been in a school with her for 3, I know how much work she has put into her education, and I believe she should be able to represent Wakefield’s class of 2018!

Katie definitely deserves to speak at graduation! Her years of hard work should in no way be affected by one bad decision, and being at the wrong place at the wrong time. Katie is such an intelligent young woman and it would be an incredible mistake to not let her speak to her class.

This is an extremely disappointing story!! I don’t know katie, but she seems amazing and I have heard nothing but good things from mutual friends about her. This is a horrible lesson being taught by wakefield’s Principal. He should be allowing her to make up for her mistakes and move on, not just ruin an amazing opportunity that one has worked hard for since kindergarten. This is only going to continue to discourage students to do their best because clearly, they won’t get rewarded for doing the best in a ginormous public high school.

As katies sister I can assure you that Katie is an all-around amazing person. I also know how important this is speech is to her and she should be able to get the recognition that she worked so hard for and that she deserves.

Hard to get to where she is. All kids make mistakes but they do not define you or your school! Let her speak!

Katie is an amazing person, but that is beside the point. The point is that being valedictorian is the result of four years of extremely hard work. One night should not/can not discredit those four years. Katie deserves to speak!

If Tripp Crayton was still principal Katie would be allowed to speak. Mr. Bazzell only cares about the African American student his “Homies” as he calls them. With comments like #blackboyjoy what does race have to do with anything. Clearly biased
