Anonymous, your words represent EVERYTHING THAT IS WRONG WITH THIS WORLD TODAY!! Go to church or read a book. Do anything that will broaden your mind, heart and soul. You are an angry person and I’m sorry if life has dealt you a bad hand. That said, don’t hate on people who work hard to be a success and stop making things up. Cheating? Why don’t you ask the administration what Katie’s SAT and ACT scores are. She didn’t need to cheat.

This is Richard Bynum. I’m Katie Bynum’s dad. Katie’s family is extremely grateful for all the support that Katie has received and all the people signing this petition on her behalf. It means the world to us to know that Katie is so loved and admired. We love and admire her too. At this time, however, we would like to kindly request that this petition be taken down. We will continue to work with Katie, partnering with her school, to help her learn and grow from this experience. We support her school administration’s discipline of Katie and view this to be an important part of her learning process. Any discussions about the extent of her discipline we prefer to remain private, as we do not want in any way to distract from the upcoming graduation season. This is a time when our community should unite to celebrate the amazing accomplishments of all Wake County graduates. Katie’s family congratulates all seniors for reaching this milestone accomplishment and wish you all the very best in the future.

This a petition to support Katie. Out of the almost 400 signatures that Katie’s has, it seems you & Ms. Wilson are using the petition to voice your opinion. I let God deal with people that want to do nothing but sling opinions and assumptions on a young lady who doesn’t need negative comments. If you are not going to support her then don’t. You were not there. I was and know what happened. I am a parent. If this is another parent use your real names instead of making them up. We all make poor choices and mistakes in life & it’s disheartening that someone would want harm to come to a child or classmate. What goes around comes around. Choice your words wisely and learn to stay out of others lives that you do not want to support. It is not our place to judge others because we all will be judged in the end. Especially if we have contemptment for others. I will pray for God to humble you.

This wasn’t a mistake. She was caught doing something that she does all the time... own up to your actions and accept the consequences.

Ms. Wilson Everyone is talking about what Katie did. She is not seeking to get her privileges back. We are a community of Parents, Family & Friends that want Katie to speak at Graduation because she has earned it through hard work and dedication to Wakefield. She has volunteered, raised money for varies charitable organizations to many times to count and has the highest GPA at Wakefield. You say Katie broke the law, were you there? I was there the night in question and what happened was an injustice. Everyone that was there received a citation regardless of if they were drinking or not. Katie has received far more punishment than any of the other 20 plus students involved. This petition is for those who want to support Katie & sign. It’s not a debat. It is not a forum to give unfavorable opinions and comments. Remember this is a child. Katie has been devastated. In the Gospel of John it states , “He that is without sin among you, let him cast the first stone at her.” Are you without sin? Do you drive over the speed limit? That’s breaking the law as well. I honestly believe this is NOT a student but a parent or administrator at Wakefield. This is a child that you are preaching on your soap box too. This is Katie’s parents job not yours. When you say no ones legacy should be defined by one night, you are right, it shouldn't. Katie does have more consequences than everyone else that was there that night. Katie did get suspended from school, is taking a mandatory course she must complete before graduation & may have to do community service for her punishment. Wakefield is taking it a step further and giving her extreme consequences. You keep repeating how lucky she is to even walk at graduation. This is your opinion, but she the most unlucky person in this scenario. How unfortunate for Katie to have a person like you come on a petition that exists to support her and you take this as an opportunity to try & bring her down further. Katie is an amazing person who has always gone above and beyond - in school, in volunteerism, and in friendships. She should absolutely be able to speak as WHS's valedictorian. She is an awesome representation of the student body.

I got in trouble with the same thing she did not too long ago. That mistake didn’t define me and we can’t let Katie’s define her. Everyone makes dumb decisions. Doesn’t make us any less of a person than we were before. I’m rooting for you Katie!

I don’t even go to Wakefield, i go to millbrook. However, Katie and I have been friends from a very young age. To whom it may concern, if any administrative staff happen to read this, I believe that it is a shameful and distasteful to not let Katie Bynum speak at graduation. It reflects poorly in the sense that Wakefield high school is unable to stray away from policy and procedure and treat students as young adults. The incident did not have to be made public to the Wakefield community, and did not even involve Wakefield high school. It is wrong to strip away the recognition of a student who has worked hard throughout high school based on one night... one incident. If an administrative staff were to read this, let it be known that they are making a mistake by not letting Katie Bynum speak. I suggest that they change their mind on their decision.

Lol she got caught up and now y’all big mad. She broke the law and can’t speak at an event most people won’t even be listening to. Y’all acting like she got the death penalty or something.

Please allow for Katie to speak as valedictorian! She made a mistake, we all do. I think she has proven herself during her time at Wakefield through all of her hard work and dedication to learning. She has been such a good role model for my daughter Emily (and so many others) that it would be a shame to take that away. Katie is a very kind and thoughtful person that means a great deal to so many. Please don’t let one dumb, adolescent mistake take away this opportunity that she has worked so hard to attain. Please allow her to speak as your valedictorian. Thank you.

I don’t know Katie but reading all the comments is so heartbreaking. Katie earned her position as valedictorian through years of hard work that are now being put to shame because of one night. To say that she is not someone who should represent Wakefield is shying over all her accomplishments which is awful considering how much time she has spent making Wakefield a better place. let her speak!!!

It appears that Mr. Bitchzell has made his decision. I am assuming based on school policy, and not for personal reasons. This petition isn't going to change that decision. When there is a snake in the road, you have a choice to run over it or go around it. In this case, I believe Katie should accept the punishment. My advice would be: Record her speech and upload it to YouTube. My second option would be: Give the speech this Thursday on senior night. Parents and students could gather in the parking lot and she can give her speech at that time. Sometimes we must accept the punishment of our actions but find alternate routes that will give us the same outcome.

Let her speak and be heard.
