If you retire after 20+ years, the least the gov can do is let you keep your firearm, if not sell it to you. They force you to clean it, keep it ready, and be proficient with it for 20+ years and then all of a sudden take it. Sounds like a typical gov operation.

My issue weapon, when I was a Cop, was given to me free of charge. The DHS should do the same.

Great idea for those who retire/transfer with good standing. Not ones fired or found unsuitable. I would love to keep my service pistol.
