Sonita is a very important movie, and Rokhsareh is helping shed light on one of the most horrible practices in the world, child sex slavery (which is what forced child marriage entails)

Pax Christi supports Amnesty in this petition. We feel that is high-handed and unjust to make such an assumption regarding a figure who is so well-known in artistic circles and who would have no more reason to remain illegally in New Zealand than other such people who travel here for specific purposes such as this festival.

It is absurd to deny Rokhsareh Ghaemmaghami, a respected film maker and human rights activist, entry to NZ. She must be allowed entry..

This just one of a series of petty decisions made by Immigration New Zealand that makes Kiwis embarrassed to be New Zealanders.

You have to take a broader perspective and consider New Zealand is an arts capital of the world. Everyone must be assessed on what they can contribute not just fear of what they might take.

Filmmaker has been unduly profiled and needs to be able to do what she was invited to do in NZ

Not to let film maker Rokhsareh Ghaemmaghami into New Zealand is ignorant and misguided. She should be welcomed here as a valued guest.

Refusing her entry to NZ is a shortsighted decision, which discredits the important work she has done in raising awareness of very important human rights issues, and of the life of an inspiring young woman, in Sonita.

This move to deny a visa is incredibly embarrassing. I urge the Minister to review the decision.

NZ should not follow in the footsteps of the US and restrict freedom of movement for documentary filmmakers they perceive are problematic for whatever skewed reason they can dream up. Shame.
