Every year our schools throw away thousands of plastic water bottles. Out of 50 billion bottles of water bought each year in the US, 80% end up in a landfill (that's approximately 40,000,000,000!) even with active recycling programs. Our ocean and land animals are suffering due to massive amounts of plastics ingested. We need to do our part one step at a time. I would like to propose no more single use plastic water bottles at school functions! Many people believe that bottled water is better than tap water but the reality is that A2 city water is constantly tested and lives up to very high safety standards while the testing of bottled water is less stringent. Please help me shed the notion that we need to buy water in plastic bottles by signing this petition and letting everyone know that we are willing to work towards less plastic consumption in our Ann Arbor Public Schools.
