It makes sense because Correctional Officers deal with convicted felons all day. not just people who may have done somethiing wronge. they are in more danger as those people get out than street cops.

As a female Correctional Officer I Have already been approached as I parked in a Walmart parking lot in Baton Rouge, LA., by a former offender at Louisiana State Penitentiary which is a maximum security prison. Baton Rouge is about 55 miles and my residence is about 45 miles away. Thankfully, he just wanted to let me know he was doing good, had a job, new wife and truck. My father, a former Warden was attacked as he and several officers walked into a pool hall in the early 70's. He required surgery, and a plate in his arm after a former inmate crashed a barstool over his head when he walked thru the door. New Orleans is where most of our inmate population is from. Should i be approached there, I am sure the results wouldn't be the same as the Baton Rouge incident. We see the same offenders everyday. They remember us and with the recent attacks I feel the need to protect myself and my loved ones. Please amend H.R 218 to include Correctional Officers.
