The kids of Legand Ranch need to go to the new high school.

We are very close to the new school and it would make no practical sense for our children in Legends Ranch to be zoned to Oak Ridge which is farther away.

It's a safety and wellness issue for our kids. Legends Ranch kids need to be zoned to Grand Oaks when it opens.

Our children would be negatively impacted by being zoned to a different high school than all of their peers. They should not be put through that kind of stress just to keep numbers up for sports. It is my understanding that if we just follow the current progression through the feeder schools that Grand Oaks would open with around 2400 students, while Oak Ridge would have 2200....plus the additional students from the ROTC and an Academy. Thus making the two schools relatively equal in numbers. I don't understand why any changes would need to be made that will disrupt the lives of our children at a very critical point in their emotional maturity. I know my 14 year old son would be heartbroken to have to leave his peer group and attend a different high school. As would my son who attends Cox and my daughter who is at Birnham Woods. Please keep Legends Ranch zoned for Grand Oaks like we were all told would be the case when we voted for the new bond to give us a new high school on 'our side'. Not to mention that it makes no sense to make our kids & new drivers travel down Rayford Road and I45 for a commute that takes around 25-30 minutes when they could go out our back gate and be at the new Grand Oaks HS in less than 10 minutes. Please think about our children's well being first.

Any CISD zoning plan that would have Legends Ranch kids attending ORHS after Grand Oaks is constructed is ill-considered and a monetary waste. When you consider there are kids in the Woodlands who are closer to OR than their current school, it appears that our kids are being deliberately short-changed.

I approach this Committee and request that strong consideration be given to allowing our kids to remain with their elementary and junior high school peers by zoning Legends Ranch to Grand Oaks HS. I feel that the unintended consequences of alienating them from former classmates could result in academic roadblocks, emotional distress and potential rivalry in their junior high years. Safety is also a major concern. My high school student would drive down busy Rayford Rd to ORHS which is double the distance than going to Grand Oaks HS. Rayford Road is congested and dangerous. There is gridlock and a spike in the number of accidents due to the boom in population. Rayford Road could be the most dangerous road in South Montgomery County. Robinson Rd is another alternative route that is also very congested and that route means longer commute times as well. I voted in favor of the bond that would send my child to the much closer Grand Oaks HS. Please kindly consider this parent's concerns. Thank you kindly.

Our children should not go to schools with the same children for 9 years and then moved to a completely new set of peers in high school. How is it ok to make Legends Ranch families feed to a different high school than the others neighborhoods attending the same junior high?!?

As a neighborhood, we have met recently and discussed key points as to why our community benefits for our teenage youth to be zoned to Grand Oaks High School: 1. Location/ Geographic Proximity of Grand Oaks makes sense; it is closer to Legends Ranch. Oak Ridge is twice as far away as Grand Oaks. 2. Commute Time impacts. With increased traffic along the busy and dangerous Rayford Road, our community likes the option to get our youth to High School without using Rayford Road at all, with Rayford having high rates of accidents and near misses. 3. Overall Safety and Traffic, with travel choices to Oak Ridge H.S. via Rayford Road and Interstate-45 or Hanna Road reached via Rayford or through neighborhoods like Imperial Oaks and Oak Ridge. Travel to Grand Oaks will be primarily via Birnham Woods Drive to Grand Parkway. Keep in mind new teen drivers on their daily drive from home to school and back. 4. Fuel Costs impacts for CISD Transportation from longer commutes, leading to more tax increases. Our community cares for these youth to have more time with family and extracurricular activities than what will be lost in commute time, including from the personal vehicles doing the commute. 5. Youth Cohesion, keeping up Morale and Continuity: having our community be able to attend the same zoned schools from K through 12 is ideal for togetherness of the benefits of growing up together, learning together, graduating together, doing extracurricular activities from 5th/6th to 7th/8th into 9th-12th. Keeping the emotional distress down to not have to split up our kids form their lifelong classmates, where diving York Junior High into two different High Schools is not ideal to keep with the most positive impact of what our community desires. 6. The School Bond Promise: CISD sold us on their recent bond by promising a Rayford Road High school. They did not tell us that it was only for a small portion of Rayford Road. I live in Legends Ranch. It is imperative to keep continuity in keeping our kids going to one school and not splitting them up everywhere. It is also a safety hazard with so much increase in traffic that will be seen. Children need to have stability and if they are ripped from there friends and their surroundings there is more of a chance of bullying, lower grades in school and kids just being miserable. The driving time is farther away to Oak Ridge as well. That would not make sense economically for fuel prices to increase drive time for the busses and parents. I have strong concerns about my child being split from his current elementary and junior high school classmates during his high school years. The bonding process would have already occurred with former classmates and I fear he'll feel isolated and alone. This will definitely interfere with academic progress. Why put this undue stress on our children. My child continues to overcome other hurdles that have interfered with his academic progress and this is an area where my voice as a parent could potentially remove a future stressor. Thank you!

I am writing this comment to ask that you please allow all high students living in Legends Ranch community to attend Grand Oaks High School. Our daughter Sadie is in 2nd grade at Birnham Woods Elementary & has already made life long friends that would be severely harmed &/or destroyed if Legends Ranch students are sent to Oak Ridge HS. The distance to Oak Ridge is twice the distance to Grand Oaks HS from Legends Ranch. To my wife & I it would make no sense to send our 2 daughters all the way over to Oak Ridge HS. Longer bus rides & waiting through traffic jams to get there on the Robinson road is not the situation that we will have our daughters experiencing every school day. Therefore, we would be forced to move if Legends Ranch is assigned to Oak Ridge HS. I pray that Legends Ranch students will be able to attend Grand Oaks HS. It is so close to our house.
