Legalization of Domesticated Hedgehogs in California

After seeing this, I know see why hedgehogs should be legal in California. I have owned hamsters and rats before, and I am dying to have a hedgehog. If California wants to keep the hedgehog population from becoming an invasive species, I say you need to have a permit, and go to the vet to get regular check ups to ensure this creature is not going to pass around diseases and illnesses. Again, I really don't see why this wonderful, kind animal could automatically be stated as illegal.

I've always wanted a hedgehog, but sadly I live in California. Please legalize hedgehogs! They're amazing creatures and make great pets with no discernible downfall to having them legalized! Make my dreams of owning a hedgehog come true!!! :D

Legalize hedgehogs as domestically pets! At least allow for ownership via a permit with fees paid.

I love hedgehogs they are one of my favorite animal and one of the reasons I'm studying as a wildlife vet I would love to care for one!.

I have wanted a hedgehog for as long as I can remember, but have been restricted from doing so because of them being considered as 'illegal.' The CA Department of Fish and Game believe that hedgehogs, if released into the wild of CA, could cause problems to the ecosystem. This is actually not true because, while undomesticated hedgehogs could potentially pose this threat, domesticated hedgehogs - in which people own - would not. Hedgehogs are hypoallergenic and very friendly pets who require very little maintenance. Just because these animals are considered illegal in California doesn't stop people from owning them and this is a serious issue as it is inhumane to the creature. When you own an animal that is illegal, you cannot seek medical care for that animal if it gets sick or if it just needs a check-up (which hedgehogs need on a regular basis). Thus, making it near to impossible for the pet owners to seek help when their animal is ill. There would be nothing but good things coming from the passing of this legalization and I fully support it with all of my being.

We really want a hedgehog but can't have one which I think is dumb because we should be able to have those types of pets
