In several U.S. states, balisong knives are banned. Why? Often when certain types of weapons are banned, they are banned out of fear, without rational thinking, scientific facts, or anything productive. Balisong knives are literally just fancy knives that you can fold up and do tricks with. The only difference between a balisong and a normal folding pocket knife is that balisongs are used for a hobby. After all, the main part of a knife is a blade, and the blade of a balisong is no different than any other knife. My petition will make balisong knives categorized as utility knives, therefore making them legal.

The emails from people who just want to practice their hobby without fear of arrest keep arriving in my inbox. I am tired of fighting this stigma but I refuse to let them ignore the fact that these are just tools. There is a lot of silence from those in charge, but I am still pushing forward with the paperwork.

as a balisong flipper of five years, I firmly believe that balisongs should be legal. For anyone who is worried for these being in the hands of a criminal, they are the same thing as anything you can make with a sharp point. It is a tool. Not a weapon.

I live in Colorado and balisongs are strictly for home use, they can't be taken anywhere outside the property legally and I want to be able to use my balisong for EDC and any other use that pocket knives can be used for because the balisong blade design is more sturdy than any folding knife and that's pretty much what a balisong is; a fancy pocket knife.

Banning balisongs is very irrational. Even though in California they merely limit them, it is still incredibly shortsighted. California is very easy on big, fixed knives but balisongs are classified as switchblades so they must remain under two inches to be carried. Fixed blades have no limit on length however.

I would suggest adding switchblades in there, you might get more petitions.

This beautiful knife has no reason to be banned, if anything, have restrictions on it. Bring balisong back!
