We are opposed to the re-location of our child from Leesville Elementary School to Pleasant Grove. We currently live only a couple of miles away, and the disruption and inconvenience of re-locating our child to another school will create significant negative issues. We are also concerned about negative impact this would have on our home value as well.

I petition against the move for my child to leave Leesville elementary which is less than 2 miles to travel on busy highways to go 8 miles to a new school. Moving here from Canada we bought our house specifically to go to Leesville elementary. We have been part of Leesville now for 8 years and it is very much a neighborhood school. The majority of the PTA and a good majority of all the same people that volunteer on a regular basis are slated to leave Leesville. This would not only be very difficult on the children and parents but to the school in general. Also having just gotten into an accident I do not wish my child to travel on a very busy highway during rush hour 8 miles away in a different town. If I wanted my child to go to school in Cary, I would have moved there.

I understand why rezoning of schools is done, but I do not understand why students within walking distance of a neighborhood school would be bussed to another school.
Bussing students to another school further away increases transportation costs and the affect on the students would not be positive. The longer bus ride would not prepare the students for the day of school work.
I realize the school board has the results of the studies on bussing. The school board also realizes that there are political forces at work that are focused on blending student numbers for tax dollars and not what would be in the students best interest.

Keep Leesville Elementary a neighborhood school. Do not force bus families to a school 2-3 times as far away. This will greatly harm parental involvement in the school.

This plan MUST be corrected such that students who live less than 2 mi from Leesville are not forced to drive to Cary. This presents significant time on highway/high speed limit roads for our children, and time away from travel and student due to a 10x increased commute time for many

My family moved to this neighborhood specifically for the excellent school systems. With two young daughters, we were excited to have such excellent educational opportunities so close to home. I definitely DO NOT support the idea of rezoning our community to a school system outside of the Leesville area!

It's not good for Leesville Elementary to lose the families who live right here in the community and are invested in the school so heavily. The community feel of the school part of what makes it great. Sending these families far away is not the right choice for anyone.

I do not support the reassignment of students from Leesville Elementary School to Pleasant Grove Elementary. Many students proposed for reassignment live a mile or so away from the school. The new assigned school is up to 20 minutes away and could involve travel along I-540. This also does not appear to be a long-term solution as additional schools are being built in the Leesville area. Will the students be reassigned again once those schools are complete? LES is a wonderful school with strong parent and community involvement. I feel this could be damaged with so many students being reassigned away from the school. As the County strives to support more active routes to school, such a reassignment seems counterproductive. We are giving students fewer options to walk or bicycle to school. We are creating hardships for parents who could have to travel well outside their normal route to school and work to drop off and pick up students. I understand the challenges of overcrowding. My daughter's math class has about 30 students. However, I support thoughtful, long-term solutions that are in the best interests of our students, school and community. Short-term, stop-gap reactions only serve to delay the inevitable and I fear will cause irreparable harm to the school and its students.

Please ask, "Who benefits from ripping apart the Leesville Elementary School community?! Certainly not the students, their families, the volunteers, the teachers or the administrators. Ms. Laura Evans, WCPSS senior director of student assignment, cites the need to fill the new Pleasant Grove school. She also emphasizes that Wake County's population is rapidly growing. Fine! Fill Pleasant Grove with new incoming students and those who already live in that area. Current K-3 Leesville students should be allowed to continue attending their own school. These are children, not statistics! Please show some compassion.
