An anti-abortion society will only seek to create division and will not be an inclusive space. This will go directly against the LUU’s core values of inclusivity (as many people will not feel comfortable existing in the union with the presence of the society). It is also not empowering as it seeks to facilitate an environment in which AFAB people’s bodies are controlled unjustifiably. Furthermore, LUU societies should strive to create a fun and positive environment, and nothing about discussing euthanasia, disability rights (in which what is there to discuss, people with disabilities should have rights), and seeking to empower methods of control over AFAB people’s own bodies is fun or enjoyable for the vast majority of the student body. This may also go against the SASHA accreditation scheme that multiple societies use, as the belief system held by the anti-abortion society may cause people to be less likely to come forward about their experiences in fear of being judged and targeted. Overall this society will make the union a less inclusive and safe place for all students.
