This is a harmful group and poses a genuine threat to study safety and liberty on campus. There is no student appetite for this society in leeds to justify its formation and continuation.

Having an anti-abortion society sets back the progress feminism has made over the last decades to fight for women’s reproductive and healthcare rights. To make a society that campaigns against women having a statutory right to have an abortion, regardless of the reason, is unacceptable.

I do not believe there be any substantial want for anti-abortion society to be formed at the University of Leeds. I understand the legal implication of the LUU blocking the society from forming, but I do believe that such a society forming would potentially endanger the safety of University of Leeds students seeking reproductive healthcare.

While everyone is entitled to their personal beliefs and the right to make their own choices, a university society should not actively promote pressure, guilt, or influence over deeply personal medical decisions such as abortion. Universities should remain spaces where students feel supported in making informed choices without targeted ideological pressure.

No society should exist where the effect may be shaming or pressuring someone into a choice of that magnitude that they otherwise might not make.

I’m a great fan of the late 20th and early 21st centuries. I’ve no wish to return to the 19th century tragedies of back street abortions and human misery.
