I loved this playground growing up, but it is in such a terrible state now that I hate taking my almost 2 year old son there as I’m afraid he might get hurt. It’s just not up to standards and feels almost abandoned. The children in our community deserve a suitable play area, especially during the times we are currently living in where a small trip to the park is very much needed for some fresh air and normalcy -and two fold for those of us with no garden for our children to play in.

This play area is well overdue a makeover. I’m guessing it isn’t up to today’s safety stands either.

I am 25 and remember when this playground was new, I now have a child of my own and would like to take him to a local playground. It would be great for the area if this playground were to be updated.

Hi Helen, You aren't on your own, a number of people have contact the council and have been given unacceptable reasons to not allocate funding despite Western Flatts being a park that is not to Leeds Quality Parks standards. I have spent a significant amount of time putting together a robust case for this to be looked at including the kind backing everyone has given by signing this petition, I will try to keep you all updated and will try my best to get this on their radar, it is not something I will let go of easily. Kind regards, Lucy

I have directly contacted LCC about this, with no response. It's an absolutely terrible park and something definitely needs to be done about it

The state of this play area is shocking. Resources for children should be dynamic, inspirational and somewhere where they can't wait to visit again. This one is truly depressing, it's not encouraging children and young people to love and have pride in their community

It's a disgrace! Broken swings, broken glass, holes in the ground & peeling paint.

I believe Wortley get left way behind other areas of Leeds when it comes to childrens/youths outdoor play areas, 20 years of underfunding! It’s about time some money was spent on this area

This park is a hub for most families in this area I’ve lived in this inner city area all my life and I have never seen it as run down as what it is now. In a time we’re the promotion of outdoor physical activity for younger children and the early years are promoted by the government this is a sorry excuse for this area. I know that people regularly travel far a field to access other parks that offer more which is a shame. The bigger question is for those that cannot travel further is this the only playful experience that thay can offer to their children in regards to outdoor equipment other than that in their gardens if so is such poor quality. I use this park daily after school and I’ve accessed this park for years it really does justify some kind of funding to make it on par with other local parks. I’ve been to other local parks and they without a doubt are clearly have more to offer in regards of play equipment. The oust towards the value of outdoor experiences and physical activity by the government is with out a doubt not reflected in this area.
