Fact: The Civil War was NOT fought over slavery, it was fought over taxation without representation. Slavery didn’t enter the picture until Lincoln wrote the Emancipation Proclomation in 1863 to try to stop the violent protests over the draft; oh and the north was getting their butts kicked!

What kind of human being wants to destroy a beautiful creation of art?
Who cannot comprehend that Texas of all states is the land of free speech--and that artistic expression in sculpture comes under the protection of the First Constitutional Amendment. As Texans, as Americans, we expect our city governments just like the US government to give protection to the form of free speech seen in this priceless historical monument. Some of the richest slave owners in the South were black people. Louisiana was filled with thousands of free and successful black people before the War. Many of them organized their own militia to defend against the Yankees, bought their own uniforms and guns. They were just as Confederate as Robert E. Lee. Undoubtedly some of their female descendants have contributed money for Confederate monuments--maybe for this very one in Bell. Please do not move it--do not let anyone harm it. It is a treasure.
