I believe it is criminal to destroy or remove any historical monument, whether you believe it good or bad.

I believe it should stay where it is. The statues aren’t doing anybody any harm. They are history.

Removing statues is a HORRIBLE practice that leads to more stripping of our history. Once our nation's halls are stripped of its heroes, then we become ripe for being conquered. It's a slippery slope. Leave it alone.

What Belton officials even gave the sniff of empowerment to these American hating people. This should have been handled the first time they opened their mouth. Get your spine back Belton officials

The new Confederate Tax is a Special District tax imposed on all landowners whereby the funds used for the sole purpose of Confederate history classroom education, Confederate statue/memorial upkeep and maintenance, and expressed appreciation for those Confederate veterans who founded Belton, Texas.

Why not teach some of the truths about the War of Northern Aggression? Talk about the Corwin Amendment that was ratified by Congress which would have kept slavery legal in the US indefinitely if the South would rejoin the Union. Talk about the slavery that still existed in the North and not one Northern slave was freed with the Emancipation Proclamation. Read Lincoln's own words about him feeling blacks weren't equal to whites and lastly about the unfair taxes and tariffs that were placed upon the South that weren't placed upon the North.

Although I disagree with some of the wording in the petition, specifically the wording about "Marxist perspective" and "leftist propaganda", I do agree that the monument should be left alone. As to the people who are perpetuating this monument hysteria and calling for removal or relocation of monuments, I don't know what their true motives are, but they are assigning relevance to unrelated events in an attempt to sway people toward their point of view. Southern women were responsible for erecting this monument, and it was NOT erected to intimidate African Americans. I am African American, and I have never felt intimidated by any monument erected by these women's organizations. The monument was erected to memorialize soldiers who never came home - soldiers who got caught up in a political struggle that had been brewing since before our nation was founded.

Leave our historical monuments where they are! Quit trying to destroy our southern history! One of my great grandfather died in the civil war and another one came home to Cleburne ,Texas with a pegleg!
