And just how many times has an old cigarette lighter wrapped up in a bit of bubblewrap destroyed a plane or wrought havoc in the local sorting office? This is just the latest bit of health fascism designed to annoy smokers!

we need to get this sorted fast, i am 18 and am in Fance seeing my grandparents and now have no way of getting the lights that i have bought back home.

rediculouse rules.
I find old french lighters to send to my grandson in england, now, not possible.
also I send my zippo's to be repaired in england, can not get them repaired now. what do they think will happen to a) an empty zippo case which is broken, & b) any lighter really, do they not have to be used manually ?.
If they have ones that light by themselves, automatically, I would like one.
perhaps if our mail was treated correctly, not thrown around however marked, glass, fragile etc; there would not be a problem.

There is no risk with zippo lighters that have no fuel...NONE

This is a outrage as I never hear of planes going down because of a lighter, its such a stupid rule as passengers carry lighters in their pockets

Gatwick Airport rule."Cigarettes and other tobacco products are all allowed in hand baggage. Please note matches and lighters are not allowed in hand or checked in baggage. You may take a single butane lighter or a box of safety matches on board the aircraft but only if carried on your person. Zippo lighters are also allowed as your one lighter." Which makes the rule of a cleaned made safe vintage lighter, Or a never fired or fuelled brand new Zippo sent with the greatest of care being destroyed as unsafe a tad hypocritical don't you think?!

Old lighters can be shipped without problems between European countries on the continent. Royal Mail and Civil Aviation Authority must get a grip. The EU provides free commerce between EU-countries adn there is no reason why current rules shouldn't be valid for GB. At least return items to seller - it's reprehensible to destroy the items without compensation.
